Mail volumes are dropping and it's now only a very small percentage of letters that are genuinely 'important' and time sensitive.
There is scope for the business to be 'streamlined' and for jobs to go via a reduction from 6 days to 5 days and I think the union should acknowledge and accept this fact and instead be using it's power to agree to the best possible VR terms for those who are willing to go whist ensuring that those who stay retain their current levels of pay and T&C's
How can you accept a 5 day week, which day would you have off. If a customer is waiting for an important letter should we just tell them we will get it to you some time.
And the best way to strike is an overtime ban, not 1 day out & then back in to catch up & then 1 day out then back in & so it would continue. RM cannot cope without overtime, they can cope with 1 day out, also can you cope with losing a days pay each week, four days less pay each month at least, oh well maybe the bank will wait for the mortgage payment this month & next month......
We won't be losing a days pay, we work a 5 day week now.
As for the 'important' letters, they could still be delivered next working day if they're stamped/franked First Class... We have so few of them now they could still be delivered alongside the pkts on the 'non-letters' day.
I said we would lose a days pay when on strike so yes we would lose 4 days pay over a month or more if we are out more than 1 day weekly.
If we deliver 1st class letters with parcels, what if the same address has got a 2nd class letter as well, then that makes it a 6 day delivery.
Whichever way you paint it or don't want to change it,for me it boils down to the way we work right now park and loop just does not work it has to change.it was the worst thing they brought in a useless expensive flawed system.
You do know that Rico Back and his bandits don't give a s**t about the company - you do know that right?
They will let this company go bust and walk away with a personal fortune so where would your job be then?
The CWU is far from perfect but it is the only thing on your side that is preventing you earning minimum wage because that's what Rico Back wants.
He wants to take everything you take for granted away, sick pay, holiday pay, job security, pensions, the lot!
If the CWU doesn't fight this, then this will definitely happen without a shadow of a doubt.
Even managers are going to be f****d over, they'll be further down the list but middle management will be culled as there is always a massive saving to found there.
The clocking in and out and pda's will see the end of the line manager role.
I’m not broken yet but the union are full of hot air yes these are serious times but perhaps if the union give a s**t all the time I wouldn’t be so disgruntled take a few points like casuals working more than 16 weeks yet part timers don’t get any extra hours if they do they’re never made up so if sick and on leave they suffer this was an agreement average pay whist on holiday once Royal Mail settles one claim the union should of been on it and got the same terms for all of us the list can go on I will support my union but like labour in the election I don’t know for how much longer
anyone voting no is effectively giving RM the green light to slash and burn this company. its your vote, you do as you see fit. I know the union has bolloxed it up few times now. but lord!! see the bigger picture. do you actually agree to jobs being 'tuped'.. do you agree to giving up your paid holidays, breaks, sick leave, do you agree to compulsory redundancies, at next to no compensation for going on the dole. do you agree to your hours being altered and T&Cs ransacked. if so then vote no and agree with RM. turn your back on the union and see everything go down the swannee. think of what you WILL be giving RM by voting no.

Mc i work in is full of angard every day an yet long serving posties cant get ot an union seem powerless to stop it been going on now for last few years enough is enough.
Std letters Mon to Fri ,Parcels , Specials and Tracked on Saturdays.
This could work ok for some as no weekend work but obviously big job losses .
Agree the Union and us have to accept some change (again) but we need to support them otherwise we'll be in a worse position I think
I think you need to vote yes, the CWU is not going to achieve anything if RM know they do not have the backing of the workforce, otherwise you may as well save your subs and be prepared to accept any old crap.
Going on strike is never a easy or popular choice for some employees but without the union I think things would be worse.i.ve worked for a large company were the union were pretty poor and they basically done as they pleased within the law.i.e changed hours/pensions/ breaks is this how we want it to be ?
I've been considering voting no. I've only been here for 2 years, and I really enjoy this job. But if RM know the union has no backing. Its all over in terms of the good things we have in this job now. Pension, hourly rate etc. Was speaking to an amazon driver the other day, they have cameras in the van watching their every move and if they feel like they're dragging their feet they give them extra work and don't get paid for the additional hours. This is exactly where we will end up.
There are things I don't think we can argue about such as automation. Like that's just how things go and it's more efficient.
But we have to vote yes now, it's so easy to take what we have for granted. But when it's gone. It's gone
