We all know going forwards that RM will make a mess of whatever grand plan they've come up with. Their success or failure will be determined by whether or not we, the staff, decide to turn that mess into something coherent and workable.
They've already got the basis of it with that REX software that PF uses

The main incentive to clocking in and out for RM is not an attack on honest posties.

It’s to disable low level management making ghosting deals. It’s to remove the blackmail haggling culture. “You’ve got no one else so I’ll do it for 6 hours”.

That’s what it’s about.

Yea and they will replace it with a 5 duties have failed today culture because no one will do overtime anymore, plus all the "runners" will slow down to make sure they fill their hours so giving them more based on actuals will be pointless. I can see lots of people suddenly having bad knees that cause them to slow down a bit and if the slow pace is ok for the "do the job properly" people it can't be argued that someone else has to work twice as fast because they have in the past.

Probably won't be too long before RM bring in outdoor performance standards

Exactly. They would have to remove lapsing pretty much entirely. RM Would have to employ more people and throw some of them full time contract as a couple of extra rounds would have to be covered and some maybe slightly changed resulting in another duty or two created and needed to be covered. Ghost overtime will obviously stop and people will slow down a bit. This is will erase any savings this system might introduce and will leave DO's struggling when there are lot of people off sick and there is not enough cover. Since ghost ot will be stopped they would need to think of increasing overtime rate to attract new people who will actually work every minute of it.

I agree, an enhanced overtime rate to reflect the changes is probably needed to incentivise many to agree to docket. However, there are many who have become used to a 70 hours a week pay packet, who I'm sure won't or can't adapt their lifestyle to accommodate a drop in wages to a flat 38 hours take home, despite their bleatings about not doing ot anymore when ghosting is phased out, the reality may be different when the mortgage needs paying...

Thats their fault if they assumed this will go on forever and based their repayment having 70h per week income level. This is a good way to save money for holiday or weekend away or a new car. You should never allow a mortgage repayment using overtime money no matter how good it looks at the time.

Who will do it for them going forward though?
1) Posties who get back from delivery early.
2) DOMs or 'PHG' equivalents who are willing to do some delivery after they finish. Not every office will have these.
3) Postie on that walk the following day has to deliver it.

Initially I naively thought the new clocking in/out would result in extended/overtime being paid automatically. There might be some of this but as with all other changes from RM it's all about cost savings. Definitely the end of 'ghosting' though.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

You all said PDA actuals would be the end of ghosting and that was 3 years ago hahahaha
Clocking out is just the same as logging off your PDA. Ghosting will continue

Don’t we already have indoor and outdoor standards, the prep time and delivery time should be printed per each day on the frame.
