Isn't this just another step towards banking of hours? I'm happy to work my full shift but don't want to "owe" the company X time at Christmas because they didn't fully utilise every minute of my day during the summer.

Even if they did use fingerprints, as long as they delete them when you leave the business otherwise it would be against the DPA not human rights.leolion855 wrote:I dont think i want rm to have my fingerprints on record , isnt that against my human rights?
They've already got loads of your personal info/data already - photo for your ID card, a copy of your passport and/or driving licence as well, NI number...

Not sure how this clock in and clock out system is going to work, unless there is an element of trust built into it.
I would have thought that if your start time is 6.42am and you arrive at 6.38am, it isn't going to pay you for those extra 4 minutes?
Sometimes you are asked to come in early and be paid for it. So how does the system distinguish between a person who comes in 1 hour early for free and a person who has come in 1 hour early to be paid overtime.
Also our depot allows you to take some of your break at the end of the day and leave early instead. How does the system distinguish between those who take their break out on the round and those who take it at the end of the round. Currently, if we don't take our break, but finish late, we can add the break time we didn't have to the overtime we claim.
Is there going to be questions like:
'Did you take your break' YES or NO
and
'Are you in early as part of arranged overtime or because you like working for free?, please select relevant option: ARRANGED OVERTIME. I LIKE WORKING FOR FREE.

doubt it, the ghost will refuse to do 4hrs overtime if they actually have to work them all, dom will then be stuck with a duty to cover, eastie wrote:If we clock in and out hopefully it will stop the office favourites ghosting O/T
they will still just add time to the docket sheet manually

Of course not but you might lose money if you're late.norris9 wrote:I would have thought that if your start time is 6.42am and you arrive at 6.38am, it isn't going to pay you for those extra 4 minutes?
Someone will still have to authorise any overtime so it will be added to the system somewhere along the line.norris9 wrote:Sometimes you are asked to come in early and be paid for it. Breaks will have to be taken at the correct times.norris9 wrote:Also our depot allows you to take some of your break at the end of the day and leave early instead. It's not rocket science and clocking in has been a thing in most industries for decades.
Personally I can't wait.

Then they work like the London underground, failsafe, Ie a power failure and the gates open automatically. They are kept in place by the electricity being on. In a powerful they revert to their normal position which is open.

Many in my office who drive to work, because of limited parking in the office yard, come in early so they can bag a parking space, then sit in the rest room till their start time

As an employee its your responsibility to get to work and be at you work station (frame) ready to begin work at your start time not be signing in to the office at the very last second and then going to your locker to hang your coat and back and then amble round to your frame.
When the ADHC starts a lot in this company are in for a major shock.

Where my partner works has recently introduced clocking in using her fingerprint. Any overtime she works has to be authorised by her manager, so all the people who think adhc will mean they will automatically get paid overtime if the go over might be in for a shock! I'm sure manges will be questioning overtime if the figures say it wasn't needed, plus if royal mail are basically getting their own way with everything they will no doubt get their outdoor performance standards up and running despite most people on here saying it isn't possible because of different ages etc. And if they do the onus will be on us to get the work done within our time or finish it off in our own time unpaid because we aren't upto the standard. God help us all because i really don't have any faith in the cwu winning this battle

I think the biggest thing that would stop that is the total ineptitude of most managers. They can't clear offices now with a set number of deliveries and staff so the thought of them managing an office with walk numbers and content changing daily is a very amusing thought even with a computer doing most of the work for them!SpacePhoenix wrote:I think that the daily dynamic generation of walks is starting to look more likelycitypostie wrote:Where my partner works has recently introduced clocking in using her fingerprint. The computer would f**k it up long before the managers got to it. Has anybody ever known Royal Mail to get anything right, ever? We all know going forwards that RM will make a mess of whatever grand plan they've come up with. Their success or failure will be determined by whether or not we, the staff, decide to turn that mess into something coherent and workable.

If they introduce this clocking thing to my office. I am pretty sure it will collapse in less than a week. Personally I do not mind going over if I get paid for it. If I have to fight and explain myself why I have gone over. Please understand I am a floater so not always very familiar with duty. This will be the day I will be cutting off whenever I have run out of time. Take my breaks in full as sometimes I will allow them 5-10 mins but usually I take anything between 25-35min. Ghost overtime stopped will be nail to the coffin. If they try to add it to our lapsing it will not work as people will be cutting off and most likely not completing lapsing. If they have to bag it anyway it will increase chance they will no clear their own duty as it will eat into their time in the morning.
Good luck with this Royal Mail. I personally do not want it and hopefully it will never go operational.
