After the 3rd bag, sit in the van when at next destination and say you're gonna chill for 10 mins

If the other person decides to carry on then so be it, he'll be back before you and will either take his break, or do some parcels

We're not allowed to go home early in my office so running around and pressurising your partner to miss their break simply doesn't work. The ill-feeling and outright emnity between some members of staff generated by this sort of behaviour is precisely what forced the DOM to introduce this policy. It seems that the runners would much rather have a break on delivery now than set up someone else's D2Ds or clean their van out when they get back to the office.

Exactly what I tell my partner to do, I rarely stop as I have osteoarthritis in my foot and if I stop I struggle to get going again, but I would never stop anyone from having a break.

Plus the DOM probably doesn't want to risk higher up taking some hours out of the office

This is one of the problems with paired duties. I don't think you should be able to take your break off you finish time, nobody else does. If you're in an office working 9-5 you can't skip your lunch hour and leave at 4, you should take your breaks. That said, how do you take a break out there? A combo van is hardly good to sit in; I usually take mine at a service station near my walk but I'm unsure if you're actually allowed to do that. What if you're on a HCT?

This whole issue of breaks need to be standardished. One person in our office used to disapear into customers homes, leaving the other postie without their knowledge half the time. It created huge rows and one of them actually ended up leaving because of it.

I asked about what the HCT duties were meant to do with regard to a break as a couple that I was put on were just new estates....no shops / cafes etc and not even seats excpet at a small kids playpark..

Was told I should have it before I went out on the duty....so start at 8.48 would mean having my break at about 9.30.

What use is that.....

So taking all the big parcels for 6 walks in one duty?
Sounds alright tbf.
It's all the parcels shoe box size and above plus ALL the Tracked items. In addition these could be spread over an area covering many miles and multiple walks. No such thing as a free lunch.

I wouldn't be surprised to see RM wanting them to do the SDs as well depending on how it pans out

As far as I’m concerned there’s no argument. I’ll tell my van partner where and when I’m having my break. I don’t mind having a discussion about it eg having it after loop 4 instead of loop 6 etc but I’ll never be forced to work through a break by a runner.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Go sit in office canteen for 20 minutes and let the other daft bugger load the van up with all the bags and packets

What's the year? 2020? when did the paired vans come in?
When were we 1st talking about breaks in a paired van?
When were the revisions to include paired vans and the breaks that should have been built-in in said paired vans?

Answers on a postcard to the wankey offices that still have this convo on a daily basis.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

But people that run round taking every short cut possible, those people should be hung drawn and quartered.
Yep, that’ll be my partner who runs around and doorsteps everything so he can go home early. Mainly because he’s Already done a night shift before his delivery and completed 40 hours overtime by midweek. Yep every office has these grabbing shysters who collude with managers to have all the overtime they can get whilst doing minimal work.

I dont think its tracked it would be to many packets for the LAT drivers to get done, we get an average 200 tracked if the LAT driver has three areas thats 600 plus the oversize that would be a few hundred so not a hope of getting them done.

There will be more packet drivers though.

I dont think its tracked
It's not all tracked.
It's just not been very well communicated.
Why would RM take a tracked that fits through a letter box off the guy delivering the letters and give it to a van driver, I know they're not the smartest bunch but....

According to the bod that's in charge of the superhub in the north its parcels and Tracked above shoe box size and all LAT items.

The problem apparently arose because some genius put 'all next day tracked' in the press release when it was meant to be all late arrival next day tracked.
