Heavier speeding penalties - what courier companies think

It took me two attempts at reading this to get the meaning - in my view, anyone caught driving at 45 mph in a 30 mph limit deserves a heavy penalty and I would have expected all professional road users to say the same.

At least RM don't expect their drivers to break the law and are introducing vehicle tracking which will help to monitor speed issues.

Plans by the government to increase the penalties for speeding courier drivers (and other motorists) have been criticised by driving instructors.

The Driving Instructors Democratic Union believes that plans to give out more penalty points for speeding at 45mph or above in a 30mph zone could lead to many people losing their jobs. The implications for couriers and owner drivers are obvious.

Richard Grindrod, a spokesman for the union, told the BBC: "Doubling penalty points could have the effect of causing many of them to lose their jobs, with a devastating impact on their families and also on industry and the economy."

He suggested that other tactics could be used, other than heavier penalties.

"Good policing, better intelligence and planning from local authorities in designing speed enforcement systems must play a major part in solving the speeding problem," he asserted.

Couriers are vital for the UK economy, and there are often times when it would be safe for them to exceed the prescribed speed limit - for example late at night on deserted roads."

well let them speed they will then be banned and the courier companies would have to hire more drivers who in turn would get banned soon no drivers left for the mto hire so all buisness would have to go back to RM as all our drivers would not be banned as they do not speed

I That will be right I have seen drivers doing- 40 to 50 mph. inside our MC going out
they have no consideration for other drivers or pedestrians when I challenged on this all I got was f**K OFF or similar abuse. I will have no hesitation in reporting then the next

Heavier speeding penalties?

I was clocked @ 38 mph in a 30 mph zone at 11.20 a.m. when the road was clear and traffic free, I got a £60 fine and 3 points after 36 years of driving without penalty.

Then the cheeky buggers offered me a speed awareness course, without the 3 points, costing £80. TBH I think they are f*cking rip off merchants who are after the money. Just take a look at where speed cameras are placed.
