Is it gonna be busy next week do we reckon? I'm kind of hoping for an easy couple of days but I suspect we won't be so lucky! Christmas Eve was crap for us last year whereas in all previous years everybody was done about 10am.

People seem to be leaving it later and later each year for Christmas cards and parcels, I wouldn't be surprised if we get hammered with pkts and parcels mon and tues.
I've also noticed in recent years the pkts don't particularly drop off immediately after Christmas... they're still up at more or less Christmas volumes for a week or two after Christmas.

Yep. It's actually worse in our office because all the support is gone too, so you've got Christmas volumes with no help from packet drivers running oversized.wacko74 wrote:People seem to be leaving it later and later each year for Christmas cards and parcels, I wouldn't be surprised if we get hammered with pkts and parcels mon and tues.

Why would your friendtwoloops wrote:Asking for a friend.
If you knock off sick Tomorrow, Monday & Tuesday will you still get paid for Christmas Day & Boxing Day without a proper ticket & even stretch it out & come back next Monday like?

It was surprisingly dead for us today. I still finished an hour early on easily the worst walk in our office, having done what many didn't do and come in on time and took my break. Many of the runners were gone about midday. Goes to show you can never judge what is gonna happen in this job!

It was probably busiest day of the pressure for xmas cards today - it was as if the mail centre had been hoarding them for a week and then releasing them all at once - was unreal
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

They've probably been rolling over each day what mech they've not got the capacity to process and were probably told Sunday that they weren't allowed to roll it over any more and so sent the overflow as manualAcca Dacca wrote:It was probably busiest day of the pressure for xmas cards today - it was as if the mail centre had been hoarding them for a week and then releasing them all at once - was unreal

I had three trays of manual (to one frame) which was mostly xmas cards so your theory seems right

Also if a batch has a very high % of xmas cards and it's being run on a CSS, the machine will tend to chuck loads out as rejects (1 maybe 2 whole trays is not unusual), especially on 3rd passes (the square ones tend to roll as they pass through and with the amount of them it's not feasible to tidy them all up so they aren't at all sorts of angles)Acca Dacca wrote:Think your spot onSpacePhoenix wrote:They've probably been rolling over each day what mech they've not got the capacity to process and were probably told Sunday that they weren't allowed to roll it over any more and so sent the overflow as manualAcca Dacca wrote:It was probably busiest day of the pressure for xmas cards today - it was as if the mail centre had been hoarding them for a week and then releasing them all at once - was unreal

Monday wasn't as bad as the previous week with just finishing about thirty minutes beyond duty time.
Tuesday was a bit quieter than Tuesdays have been for a number of weeks and got back to the DO just before 1300.
Not sure what Friday & Saturday will bring. It could be really quiet or RM might have saved up a pile of 'rubbish' to send us to deliver.
