As long as it wasn't a SG Special, you'll be OK, I once delivered a normal special on a Saturday after 1pm, it having got mixed up with the normal packets, got no comeback whatsoever

I think it's time RM changed the special time to at least 2 PM since we're getting out later these days. The 9 AM one should be changed to 10, as most of these are for businesses who aren't open before 9 which kinda defeats the purpose!

Would it be worth RM axing the 9am SD product and then moving what would have been 9am SDs over to the equivalent Parcelforce product?

They should change the SD 1PM to 'Secure Next Day Delivery Guaranteed' with no time specification. There must be loads of timedelboy1969 wrote:I think it's time RM changed the special time to at least 2 PM since we're getting out later these days. Don't see why not Rambo? If I cut off to Deliver a Special, and they're not in, I'll 739 them. Then if I get there an hour later, and they're now in, I just Re-Scan the Special get them to sign for it.rambo1 wrote:yellowbelly wrote:They should change the SD 1PM to 'Secure Next Day Delivery Guaranteed' with no time specification. If a customer specifically wants their item delivered by special delivery on a Saturday there is quite a large surcharge to enable this service. Quite often UK special delivery items not marked SG and therefore meaning the surcharge has not been paid arrive and are put out to be delivered.
If you are given a UK special delivery item to be delivered it has to be delivered by 1300 no matter which day it is.

Agree with you Dorset, I go out on a rural with SD's, no answer, come back along the same route later on, car in the driveway, delivered not a problem,Dorset Plodder wrote:Don't see why not Rambo? Quality service from royal mail.I also ask for the 739 and tear it up in front of them saying, "And this'll make sure no-one takes this to the Office by mistake, and causes total confusion".
We've had it in the past with normal 739s..... Wife's in for the Re-Delivery .... Husband comes home and sees the card ... and next day goes off to the DO ... and they're "Searching High & Low" for a packet that's already been delivered.
never had a manager question it at all - and yes make sure I always get the 739...

Not in our office you don't - if you get a 'normal' SD on a Saturday, it's delivered when you get there. Only SG get the 1pm treatmentCelgar wrote:If a customer specifically wants their item delivered by special delivery on a Saturday there is quite a large surcharge to enable this service. on a Saturday - surely that's the whole point of the SG surcharge? No-one in our office has been up in front of
the big cheese for a 'normal' SD failure on a Saturday. Other offices might be different though......

Hmmm judging from our DOMs face who knows whether they are going to get their huge Xmas bonus?
There's a lot of other criteria as well such as getting thetracked scans and accidents, sorry incidents,on delivery

I used to do my rounds starting to the closest point of the office, moving the van while doing big parcels and specials, if I reckoned that I could not make the 1pms that way, I would start from the furthest point and do the specials and some convenient parcels on my way. There is not much difference doing it one way or another finish-time wise, I preferred the first one though in case something is forgotten it could be done on the way back to the DO. Regarding 'Secure Next Day Delivery Guaranteed' It could be done introducing a Special Delivery by 7pm aimed to grow business and secure first time delivery to more customers who are home later. I'm sure the 9 am and 1 pm work for many firms but one more hour can improve maneuver for delivering the goods, 10 am and 2 pm could be used for printed papers for firms and 7 pm for parcels with a designated delivery slot.yellowbelly wrote:Agree with you Dorset, I go out on a rural with SD's, no answer, come back along the same route, later on, car in the driveway, delivered not a problem,Dorset Plodder wrote:Don't see why not Rambo? The SG surcharge doesn't pay for your DO to give 1pm treatment to a SG delivery - it's down to the extra costs involved in getting the item TO your delivery office as parts of the network are only Mon-Friday.

The whole network runs on Friday nights, that doesn't make any difference to the handling of SDs (whether SGs or not)themailman wrote:yellowbelly wrote:Not in our office you don't - if you get a 'normal' SD on a Saturday, it's delivered when you get there. So according to this a 'Special' is guaranteed to arrive the next working day.......I know the service used, when should I expect my item?
Special Delivery Guaranteed® - guaranteed to arrive the next working day by 9am or 1pm depending on the option used*.
And again under the 'Postcodes and exceptions' on the Special Delivery page of the RM website:
So following this logically a 'normal' SD received in the DO on a Saturday is guaranteed for 1pm delivery by the next working*Postcodes and exceptions
Working days
Working days are Monday-Friday unless you've purchased Saturday Guaranteed delivery.
day ie Monday - if the recipient gets it at any time on a Saturday that's before the 1pm 'Next Working Day' deadline.
If it shows up as a failure because 'the system' can't tell the difference between a 'normal' SD and a SG SD that's for the
well paid managers to investigate and clarify. As I said, nobody I know has ever been pulled up for delivering a 'normal' SD on a Saturday
after 1pm......
