Bosses have been accused of deliberately delaying clearing the Wigan mail backlog.
Thousands of undelivered letters and packages have built up at Wigan sorting office during the Royal Mail pay and restructuring strikes.
But now the dispute has been settled, management are "deliberately" dragging their feet in clearing the mountain, allege the Communication Workers Union.

Wigan's 600 postal delivery staff called off their rolling programme of strikes late last month after the union's executive ratified a national agreement, although this will still be subject to a full individual members' ballot.

Metro borough CWU area delivery representative Paul Fenney, who represents postal staff in Wigan, Leigh and Skelmersdale, claims the union have evidence that there are "sacks" of items being deliberately held back.

This, they claim, is because bosses are opting to use "untrained agency and casual workers" instead of staff at "great expense."
He is now calling on watchdog and postal services user group Postwatch and regulator POSTCOMM to "urgently" look into the union's claims.
But a spokesman for Royal Mail insisted that they were working to clear the back log as quickly as possible.

She said: "Royal Mail is doing all it can to ensure the backlog of mail is delivered and our service returns to normal as soon as possible.
"We will not pay extra overtime to staff who were involved in strikes as it doesn't make sense to reward industrial action."

Nah, don't reward us for protecting our jobs and the service. I've a better idea, let's break our backs delivering Pre-Christmas Pressure, Pressure, tons of packets, not to mention DSA and mailsort
As for the backlog, FORCE the strike breakers clear it, for no extra payment, they've already shown that they will work for nothing and if they don't do it, do them and RM for willful delay.

It isn't a case of "Rewarding Industrial Action", it's a case of people waiting for their Post! When will these imbiciles realise that the important factor is NOT who they pay to clear the backlog, but WHO CAN DO SO MOST RELIABLY!!!!!

There is no point asking poorly trained (RM Policy) Agency or Casual Staff to clear it. It should be cleared by US. How many times have we heard recently, about Mail being incorrectly delivered, or dumped. These have started to happen since RM started to bring in so much temporary staff. If they refuse to fully train them, then they shouldn't be surprised when these things happen.

It may help their propoganda to have these failures happening, but it doesn't help the Public who are waiting for their Post to arrive!

I notice that the Hellmail propaganda machine is dragging up as many stories about thieving posties as possible to deflect attention away from "temporary staff issues " and thus defend RM 's Area & Senior Management's stance .

RM have usually used the race or pc i.e. pretentious crap card to defend it's casual army . I wonder what the right wingers in Tory Paper's Comment on this sections would say about all the misdelivered or dumped mail ? -----Usually it's I'd ban Unions , Sack the lot of them and replace them with ---guess who?

What happened to the fresh start as per the deal we are voting on? Maybe RM will be as awkard as possible untill there hands are tied by a yes vote?

RM provoking a no vote for their own ends so as to break the CWU is going through my head right now.

Reading comments on this site about RM managment and based on my own experiences one has wonder if there is some sort of good cop bad cop routine going on.


Perhaps im being paranoid and need more sleep to clear my mind.

Still i will work to the spirit of the aggrement and the signs are RM in my area are doing the same.
