We had one like that until recently. RM bullied them into submission so they left our office.clashcityrocker wrote:The one who realises that a happy workforce is an efficient workforce. Definitely not the case. A person is either capable or not capable of being a manager. Probably the main skill they need are strong communication skills along with some common sense.mattjo1@talktalk.net wrote:A Manager is made by the work force
If you have a crap Manager your office must be crap as well

If you follow your strange logic putting a good manager into a crap office doesn't improve the office it just makes a crap manager.mattjo1@talktalk.net wrote:A Manager is made by the work force
That's probably the biggest managerial insult so far on this thread.
Kudos.

We had one of these about 15 years ago. Upper management didn't like that he pushed back and simply moved him sideways, replacing him with a lapdog.clashcityrocker wrote:The one who realises that a happy workforce is an efficient workforce. The control freak: the manager who gets involved in everything to further their own career. Human resources, diversity, asking their boss to work shadow so that they can one day run the office. These guys prefer to be in charge rather than to engage with shop floor workers
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The Harvey Weinstein: Makes inappropriate 'jokes' and comments when no one else is around, tries to leverage what little power he has into 'favours' and pays far more attention to female members of staff, makes everyone around him feel uncomfortable and in need of a hot shower.
More prevelant in the old days but still a factor, most likely sexually dysfunctional with repressed Oedipal complex.

Basic Management is simple....
Be fair and reasonable with Posties. Make sure any Postie who goes over their time gets paid and then those Posties are going to be under less stress, enjoy the job more and be happy to stay out beyond their time to complete.
Instead managers choose to be unreasonable, ignore the facts, not always pay you for when you have worked over your time which results in no favours in return - posties cut off.

Well put,the pressure put on them clearly doesn’t leave room to manage fairly and reasonably, they seem down trodden minions who then have to vent it out on us at the sharp end, they stick to the rules religiously without being allowed to show common sense,it’s a daily mind game of them and us,who’s on board with his mindset, and who’s just trying to do the job properly, wtll sessions are laughable to say the least, with these clearly briefed actors ,leaving us looking at each other bemused at how this job is portrayed, with an embarrassed boss looking on,there isn’t room in management to be nice, and fair, that won’t get them anywhere, and they certainly won’t be able to run there office like that, people above them won’t tolerate that,norris9 wrote:Basic Management is simple....

& the 2 faced ones who like to gossip about everybody, don’t forget themWoody Guthrie wrote:I've said for a long time what's really holding this company back is the piss poor level of management.
They come in four versions.
The arsonist/firefighter. This guy will cause problems just to solve problems, the type of manager who will move 6 people about where one will do and then look for praise for his organisational skills.
The zombie/floor polisher This one usually picks up the trays and pushes yorks around while dragging his feet across the floor. Typically counting down to retirement.
The new sheriff in town Just out of Uni, insecure and full of self doubt but overcompensating by trying to sack someone in the first week, trying to apply theoretical physics to sticking letters through a hole in a door.
Mr Old Skool started as a telegram boy but hasn't done a delivery since 1991, doesn't believe a word anyone says because he knows better and anyone taking more than 2 hours to do a delivery is taking the piss.
Anybody any more?

tHE total DELUSIONAL : when you need to cut-off and request their 'advice' you get a statement... "*YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT!" (passive aggressive feedback)...but they THEMSELVES are total shysters and really mean "AGREED. BUT I THINK I'M BETTER THAN YOU EVEN THO I COULDN'T DO IT. SO HAVE A SHITTY PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE COMMENT...COO, AREN'T i A GOOD MANAGER...THEY RESPECT ME NOW...I'M THE COCK OF THE WALK AND EVERYONE IS BENEATH ME"...
So to massage their (delusional) ego the answer to this* statement is of course to shrug it off, "You really think so, hey, thanks!!!...Now which portion of work can you manage or shall I phone you later, as i am intending to finish on-time as i have good reason to. Thanks Boss!" (whilst smiling in their face...with fierce dignity).
They are so happy that you smile and call them Boss that they cannot compute that you are calling the shots.

I find most managers fall in to three categories 1/ Fresh out of university with a promise of fast track promotion and a carer because they know no better, when reality dawns they often feel disillusioned and then wonder why they paid so much and worked so hard for this. 2/ Part time posties who do it for the money for as long as they can and when they can no longer get away with there shenanigans pack it in while trying to ingratiate them selves with there fellow posties. And finally the old stages who have put some time in feel beaten down and are waiting on their IHR or EVR or retirement.
