Christmas Overtime

I started about 2 months ago on a 25hr contract and have been doing at least 38 hours a week since then, DOM comes up to me today and says from next week ill be doing my hours over Christmas with no OT as they pulled in around 20 temps to cover. Was I being naïve to think with Christmas and now the Election there would be plenty of OT going? Or will this change when they see the amount coming in everyday?

That's a manager that's been lent on to reduce hours! Me thinks? but don't despair give it a week or so when the s#%t hits the fan he'll be back so will your hours

Yes, sorry. You are being naive to assume anything at Royal Mail!

Also, some managers use election material as an excuse to pay out LESS overtime not more. 'You get paid per item' they say, so can't claim. . which is a ridiculous lie.

You need this in writing ASAP and let the union know ASAP. ALL overtime MUST be given to existing employees BEFORE any work is given to agency staff.

Absolutely. I thought he was gonna say he'd been made up to full time till Christmas, that's normally what happens. This is why we are in the doo doo, management are clueless, how is it cheaper to pay for agency staff at £15+/hr who don't know the job? We're doomed.

We had to give our packets to the agency staff this morning - so they had something to do!!

Can you sent some my way. I've already got a York full of packets not going out daily (some of them been there since monday). I'm also bringing about 3 loops a day back each day. The election frenzy not even started yet

Yeah had poll cards but I was off for a week so missed them. So my walk just failing on Christmas pressure alone. the managers are just burying their head in the sand, just hoping one day there will be a Christmas miracle and I will clear it all in my contracted hours.

Financial constraints notwithstanding I'd look on this as an opportunity to work only your contracted hours and have a relatively easier time of it than normal. And when the screws come crawling when it all goes tits up, you can tell them to go s**t in their hands and clap.

It's great I can't work past my time because i need to get home so my wife can go work and i look after the baby. I find it amazing how the other posties in my office spend all morning moaning how busy it is and stressing about what time they will get done. Here's me working with a smile on my face not tired because I ain't rushing round like a idiot. I keep telling them work too your time but they don't listen and moan about me being happy all the time

I did a 7.30pm a couple of years ago one Friday night on the run up to Christmas. That was fun.

I drew the line when I almost broke my neck on the final bag walking up some street and tripping over someone's garden. The bag in question was only 44 houses, so I'd polished it off in less than twenty minutes.

Did I get any thanks for completing? Did I f**k.

Did the managers of Royal Mail not get a decent pay rise or was it rejected??

If so,why is the company now paying additional agency staff on £15 an hour to do deliveries?? What on earth are managers doing in their non-productive offices??
