Incorrect, you can only refuse to deliver them if doing so goes against your conscience. Disagreeing with a party is not enough, though you can also use safety concerns as well if the concern is genuine.worktotime wrote:you can , if you don't agree with a party you have the right to not deliver those items.Murdoch wrote:You can'tRyan741 wrote:Can you opt out of election stuff? You can't totally opt-out of delivering election material, you can opt-out on safety ground and conscience for individual parties, though you have to be prepared to back it up.shaun2urz wrote:Murdoch wrote:You can'tRyan741 wrote:Can you opt out of election stuff? Didn't know you could do that.

The wider question i would ask is do we have the right to strike up to the date of the general election if the CWU decided
to opt for this action because mediation does not resolve to agreement on the 8th November.
The suggestion has been raised on this site that an injunction could be requested by RM & if granted prevent such action. Varying responses have been given.
I would hope a definitive clarification on this question is forthcoming from the CWU imminently. 6pm today is the Q&A from Terry Pullinger.

And I think they'll just move you while someone else covers your duty to deliver them.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:You can't totally opt-out of delivering election material, you can opt-out on safety ground and conscience for individual parties, though you have to be prepared to back it up.shaun2urz wrote:Murdoch wrote:You can'tRyan741 wrote:Can you opt out of election stuff? thousands probably. I am not politically clued up to a great degree, but I know just about everybody that I know at work who voted for Brexit, and have voted labour all their lives are going to vote tory. they are calling Corbyn worse than crap, and a fifty faced gobshite, the worst leader the labour party has ever had. are ANY of them any worse than the other though?Tinoblade wrote:Murdoch wrote:Ok, let me explain lol. I work in a large delivery office, from an area that's hugely pro-Brexit, many people working there will be out on strike one week, and then a week or two later, many of them will go vote for the Tories, cause it's going to be the only way to deilver Brexit.worktotime wrote: ehhh ? please explain what you mean and what has Brexit got to do with it , and why would I vote for them tory shites ? when them f***ers have made it harder for any workers to strike inc postal workers ,
So, as you say, they'll be voting for a party that has f****d the trade unions... I was just pointing out the strangeness of that situation, what a weird time we live in...
I was in no way suggesting you would personally do that
I work in a similar office. Can guarantee everyone will vote brexit party. Even if they don't have any sort of manifesto
It'll be 100s of working class people voting directly against their best interests

To haul this topic back from Brexit/Labour v Tories, did y'all notice the message on our PDA's today from RM.
Basically they are bricking it. No doubt some very highly placed and powerful civil servants in Whitehall have already been in Rico's ear telling him to get his s**t together and quickly to prevent a strike.
As long as the CWU don't give in to the pathetic management request to dump the strike threat before they go back to the table, we hold all the cards.
The GE is a gift from heaven for us. We have RM over a barrel here. If the CWU play this properly the company will capitulate VERY quickly the closer the election gets with strikes threatened.

I know Martin Walsh is on this site, can he confirm that we can go strike even though there is a general election called, because there was rumours going around late last night that RM were looking to go to court to stop action because of the general election.
In my office Monday morning the Dom was talking he's usual crap, trying to convince staff that Rico wanted to take on the Union, and that he's got half a billion put aside to starve us out, (I don't think the shareholders would take this to well, if true).
He then consulted with a member of the indoor staff if he would be going on strike and was told in no uncertain terms that he would and so would everyone else in the office.
This Dom has never had to deal with strike action before and clearly didn't have a clue as to what would be happening, fast forward 24 hours and he had changed his tune and was slagging off Rico and the people at the top, when he realised that he would be expected to get out of his cushy office and deliver S/D items.

i dont think the election will have much effect on christmas pressure, most of the election material will be delivered before the peak time for christmas cards.

Christmas cards aren't the issue, it's all the packets and parcels from November onwards, along with the countless d2ds and election materials, that's the issue.

Not Corbyn's fault tough - they campaigned for Brexit at the last General Elextion. It's the Tony Blair-type people - Starmer, Thornberry, Jess Philips, etc - they forced the Labour Party to support a second ref.

Long as I get paid extra for them I don’t see a problem. The problem is that people often go over their time at Christmas and will definitely be expecting to get paid for it, but usually with election stuff we been told you can’t claim for them and for overtime. So not sure how it’s going to work.

There won't be any holding (or counting) of any election stuff in MCs, it'll all go straight through to the DOs, whether they have the room or not
