I got one today to say I owe £502 for benefit in kind from royal mail. I got a phone and laptop so not only do I have to pay the price for the stuff but then get screwed over by the tax man. Would have been cheaper getting the stuff on a credit card.

I got a bill for £77 tax underpayment for my dental insurance through My Bundle. I was under the impression that you didn't pay tax and NI on the bundle price but it seems they want it back at the tax year end. It's not a large amount but seems a bit underhand.

HMRC got wise to these schemes a few years ago and closed the loopholes that made some of these benefits tax/NI free.

Which ones are tax and/or NI payment free is clearly shown in the My Bundle booklet I've got from early 2016.

I have also received a P800 with a tax bill of £338.60. My benefits in kind were for an IPhone package totalling £1453. Does anyone know how this tax bill is calculated as this is not 20% of the cost of the package originally purchased?

I wouldn't worry about it by the end of the tax year and a budget, I doubt you will end up owing anything.

I was told by both, that it is because every 7 years we have a week 53 (as we did this year). Each year HMRC estimate our next tax year total earnings in advance, then takes off our tax free allowance, leaving what they estimate will be our tax due for the year on the balance. This total for the year is then divided by 52 as we are paid weekly and the answer is used to generate our tax code. BUT, as this is over 52 weeks, the week 53 is over and above and therefore not included in the estimate, hence the underpayment which is around £1 per week. Whether this is right or wrong I don't know but simply conveying what I was told.
solid answer but since it happens every 7 years you would like to think they have a process in place to head this off rather then dealing with it afterwards. appreciate the detailed answer saves me phoning both and going through it

I got a similar you haven't paid enough tax letter. The every seven years explanation sounds plausible except I have never had one before and I have been paying tax for a lot longer than 21 years. I have never used any of the my bundle offers or any scheme that takes payment from my wages.

I wonder if Richard Branson, Amazon and a huge plethora of rich men got one too.

No they don't have to abide by our rules not naming anyone. but if you do get any letter just check it is a legit one HMRC or other means of communication with those who deal with these matters.
