that makes sense, be aware that you dont know fully what goes on with the union rep and management in meetings. Its very possible and even likely in this case that management wanted to add work to all of your duties in some way and that made the rep enforce everyone to take their full break as hes aware that many dont take their breaks so they can go home early. The management will just keep pointing to PDA data and that doesnt always show the full facts, either way it seems your days of going home early were numbered be it pounding some extra streets or spent having a break.Dindin wrote:it was the union who said have a break . Easy pickings for higher up to take some hours out of your officemags999 wrote:never taken a break since 2nd deliveries were scrapped why should you take it in a van. unless they let me take it back in the office where travel would be 15 mins don't see a problem adding to the end of shift which would make your finish time 40 mins early never been a problem why now

So you'd rather not take a break, and instead do 40 minutes worth of extra delivery to take you to your finishing time?!Dindin wrote:The management make us have a break and we can't early

I love a break just after half-way through my walk. Can't tell if the OP is taking the piss = having to take a break and be paid for it - the outrage !scoobydo79 wrote:I’m not as young as I was.I need to take My breaks.

In our office we’ve been allowed to take 20 minutes before we go out and take 20 minutes off of the end. We don’t have longs and shorts. We have 0624-1400 every day and were allowed to book OT from 13:40.

The difference is when the area manager looks at the pda data and asks the Dom "why is this person finishing an hour early?" The Dom isn't able to track each employees break habits plus the fact breaks aren't allowed to go at the end of the shift by law, it's just simpler to give a "use it or lose it" approach which makes it easier for RM to calculate how efficiently they're using hours which is fair enough imo.mags999 wrote:why should you take break in a poxy van let us return to the office to have our break :nana

But they can tell if we’re standing still for too long so why can’t they see we haven’t had a break?Postie45 wrote:The difference is when the area manager looks at the pda data and asks the Dom "why is this person finishing an hour early?" And if a break is taken in two breaks ie 20 mins in the middle, the way forward agreement states we can take 20 at the end and that we don’t have to return to the office just to sign off.

because the onus isnt on them as an employer to chase up every detail for every worker about what time they had their break. Put yourself in their position, giving set break times before people leave the office makes it a lot easier to manage and saves a lot of time when managing work hours, this is whats being requested and it isnt unreasonable. The 20 minutes youre talking about at the end is true but it states "may" be able to take it at the end, RM can claim operational needs that this break pattern is unsuitable to them. The wording in that agreement allowed leeway to go home those 20 minutes earlier when it was in both the workers and RMs interests to allow for that and wasnt something that was necessarily a "rule".Biker Mouse wrote:

I dont want to sound like im taking RM`s side but in this argument I think they do hold the cards we have more important stuff to argue with them about than having to work to our scheduled finish time and to actually take our paid break.

I agree with you but you stated when the area manager looks at the pda data......surely he won’t see a big yellow dot if we haven’t had a break? It would be obvious if there wasn’t a big dot!Postie45 wrote:because the onus isnt on them as an employer to chase up every detail for every worker about what time they had their break. Bend the rules to suit themselves, I think.

i think most peoples breaks are intended to be taken pre delivery so PDA wont be any use to monitor breaks for most people and itll just be assumed the break was taken before they left the office. But to make it much easier RM do what theyre doing in the OPs message, keep people until finish time so in theory RM lose no time with people going home early. Its probably best not to get to that point but if the union have insisted on taking breaks I just see it as a sign that management was looking to add work due to peoples early finishes.Biker Mouse wrote:
