Seriously, how long before a postie gets assaulted because of this? If it is me I will go off work with severe trauma for 6 months then I will sue their arses off and then leave!

A whole can of worms.

Firstly, some 12 year-olds look 25 to me.

Secondly, I'm not going to be standing at a door with a packet in my hand and the recipient in front of me, and not hand it over. Telling them they can't have it is crazy. We get enough abuse to start with.

So, we have a revision that created huge duties. Then they tell us we have to empty boxes as we pass them, with no additional time given.
Then we have tracked items that all need to be scanned, some signed for.. with no additional time.
Then we have 2D bar codes meaning virtually all items have to be scanned. . with no additional time being given.
Then we are told we have to knock on neighbours doors. . with no additional time given.
Now we have to judge the customer? Their age, is their ID fake? Are they the person the say they are? What if I have an item for Jane Smith and the beefy angry bloke in front of me says yes, thats him. I have to judge if he looks like a Jane?
Do I ask for ID even though he looks older than 25?
Will we be trained on different types of ID and how to tell if they are fake?

A huge can of worms.

I don't drive so I have a provisional licence to ensure I have photo ID without having to carry my passport around with me.
If you work in the callers office, you will see a lot of provisional licences. That's why.

On the one hand it's £34 to apply for a provisional, a lot of people in London and other cities may want to pay for a provisional licence when the
tube, bus etc are readily available for getting about just to received age restricted stuff. On the other hand they may just then nip down to the offy to buy
their booze or Wilko's to buy their steak knife set saving us the problem.

[quote="number one"No photos will be taken but you will have to select a box on the PDA that says “I confirm I have seen ID” also on the AV items under the box where the customer signs it also says “by signing fo this item I confirm I am over 18 years of age”[/quote]

Can see a lot of people just ticking all the boxes and handing over the item. Know of people who sign for specials etc on a regular basis because joe bloggs is at work but they tip well at xmas. Managers are well aware it's goin on but hey they do their lapsing everyday so turn a blind eye.

At Parcelforce we have been delivering age verification for a long while and it is no problem. We have been told if the person looks over 18 then you can say you have seen i.d. even if you haven't.

News item in the news forum...
Postal workers will now ask to see ID before delivering blades to your home
Weird, nothing on myroyalmail or a press release
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The PDA coaching/training takes place on Tuesday 24th September for these two new products.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Amazon delivered one of these to our house today. Mrs had to go and find a letter with proof of her name and address. All it was, was a £6 pack of ecig atomizers.

Must be some new kind of law thing.

Crazy.

Haven't got time for this my delivery is unfairly longer than the average walk in my office. If a 12-year-old answers the door they can have the item.

You always have time to do your job properly.
What you might not have time to do is finish the delivery.
