Trouble is they wanted 5% every year for the last 20 years and maybe the next 20 twenty years hang on 5% x 20 is 100% and for another twenty years is 200% never in all my life have I seen a 1% out of managers effort or even willingness in the contributions to their bonus earned by us all!

Government they sold it cheep let others take profit they took enough before privatisation and more like 15 billion pension fund in 2013 so it is beholden upon them why should any government responsible for the good of our nation sell things beholden to our nation and not expect the return of infrastructure as it is no longer a money maker anymore. They the capitalists will not invest money but divest this is what capitalism is this is will happen with all the sold assets of the nation even water and electricity generation is on its knees years of neglect will not solve the lack investments paid to shareholders in the far east!

Loss making companies are bought and sold all the time (Bury FC currently). Its not beyond the realm of possibility that the USO could be downgraded to say 3 days a week if its the only way that a new owner could make it profitable.

I can't tell you the situation nationwide, ie. if there are a lot of Posties with easy rounds who always finish early and go home early, but....

Time is wasted queuing for specials, time is wasted moving vans out the way that are blocking you in, time is wasted finding satchel bags, time is wasted being asked 3 times to do lapsing. These things can possibly be improved by management.

Again - encourage the public to get parcel boxes installed. Time is wasted trying to get things through people's tiny letterboxes, writing out dockets, knocking on people's doors to hand them birthday cards because they don't fit though their 1920's sized letter boxes.
Brilliant post, agree with all of this, perhaps we should bring some of these ideas/opinions up in work time learning.

Why can't the Union just propose a total overtime ban. Everybody work to rule, start and finish at the correct time, but refuse all overtime. This way we wouldn't lose any basic wage, but they would be hit hard with delayed mail and parcels.
Royal Mail is run on the goodwill of the workforce and massive amounts of overtime.

Seems to be money wasted everywhere from the pay offs and the wages of the so called top dogs to ghost overtime which is a joke . Dont get me started on the work place coaches free money they get for months on end which costs thousands a year in every office . Incredible waste of time and money . Bring back adam crozier oh maybe not ! Bring it back to the people , I knew we were doomed when privatisation and greed kicked in .

I have always believed this to be the best form of Industrial Action because you are still doing a full days work. How does it then look on RMG when they try to convince the public on how bad we are for wanting to go home on our contracted finish time. How dare we.

If that's the case, I think it would be a great idea to ballot the members for a total overtime ban, instead of a strike. After talking to several workmates recently I'm pretty sure that this would get nigh on 100% approval.

I don't think an overtime ban would make much difference, RM would just get more casuals in and isn't there a strong chance that part time staff would just ignore it, if they needed the money?

Overtime ban would be completely unfair as it would be mostly PT staff making the sacrifice compared to FT
Its not so bad doing an overtime ban if your still guaranteed your 37 hours - not so much if your on the 20-30 that most PTers are on
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

How do you tell if someone is working overtime?
How do you set up an overtime picket line?

Overtime bans can work on a local level in a well represented office but what do you do if a couple of guys turn up from a neighbouring office?

They could be working their day off on overtime or they may just be working their contracted hours.... who knows?

Meanwhile your own part-time staff are living on beans.
