My postman sometimes asks me to sign for a recorded or special delivery for another flat in my building - if I am in,
he usually arrives after I've gone to work. But he knows I work for RM.

Form left everything. If anyone asks to sign for it without answering the door, a key or valid photo id tell em youre leaving a card and to f**k off.

If you are not 100% certain that it will be safe with no repercussions on yourself then I would say don't leave anything with a neighbour.
If you are not the 'regular postie' on the walk don't leave items with a neighbour. It's not worth the potential fallout and it likely takes you more time than just doing a P739.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Surely we can leave anything except specials and international signed for with any neighbour (subject to our own discretion), that's what we've been told since they brought in delivery to neighbours.
It doesn't have to be a designated neighbour.
We're told to try neighbour either side and directly opposite, if time allows (which it usually doesn't).

Personally would just card it but if you trust them it is your discretion but that will not help in the 1% chance of a dodgy neighbour how would the intended recipient feel towards you for your error of judgement you are no judge nor am I but you can bet your bottom dollar your manager will judge you!

You're probably lucky not to have been sacked for that. I suspect that a DOM would sack you on the spot

A guy in my old office got dismissed for leaving specials with neighbors. He was with royal mail for 20 years doing a rural round. My advice would be under no circumstance leave specials with anyone but the addressee.
