Royal Mail’s decision to break the Agenda for Growth by deciding to set up a separate profit and loss company for parcelforce from October and TUPE parcelforce members into this company is just the start of his strategy to shrink the company.

What starts with parcelforce might be followed by Logistics LTD , Delivery LTD , Collections LTD , Processing LTD , International LTD as they all become their own profit and loss standalone companies.
Interestingly enough. I just Google'd 'Parcelforce Limited' and found a company on companies house that shows an active 'Parcelforce Limited' which was incorporated in 2002, registered address 100 Victoria Embankment, London, EC4Y 0HQ and is a dormant company.

One can only think that Parcelforce becoming a limited company has been on the cards for some time, maybe?

1. Surely they are sooner or later going to have machines that can sort all walks into order and that probably will also bundle the post up.

2. Employ owner-drivers.

3. All medium to large parcels end up being delivered by owner-van drivers or Parcel Force.

4. They won't need as much depot space as they do now, therefore will sell off a lot of land.

5. Once bank statements, tickets, payslips, etc.. all go digital....then there will be far less post.

I'd assume this job will be a lot different 10+ years from now. There will likely be no sorting, just part-time hours / zero hour contracts and a lot more time spent walking....if you want the hours.

4. The land grab is another huge issue in my opinion. Loads of D/Os , Mail Centres and RDCs in prime locations must be worth Billions.
People will be really lining there pockets....

We recently lost the Amazon contract in our office, after being one of the last to still deliver for them, and our packets are at ridiculously low numbers now. Considering our walks were revised as 6 hours (we work 9 hour days) today I had about 3/4 of a tray of walk sort, and probably 20 parcels to deliver. We are an office still operating job and finish, and even today, starting on time, doing the job by the book, I made 90 minutes even after completing absorption.

I mean, that isn't sustainable, and even though I am sure it isn't the same in all offices, you can see that change is inevitable, so it will be interesting to see what the union can come up with.

What's wrong with splitting the company into lots of smaller companies? i.e. Royal mail letters ltd, parcels ltd, leaflets ltd, run all companies at a loss had one and offset the profits this reducing the companies tax bill. It's what any other large company like Amazon does. Let's have a national voluntary redundancy package offered to all full timers with an % incentive attached if taken before a specific date. I think there would be a lot of takers, let's move forward with staff who want to stay.

I can potentially see d2d being split off eventually, no need for any sort of DO for that, just drop x number of boxes of each leaflet to the house of the person delivering them, along with a list of roads, then they colate and deliver them

Change in your office might (and should) be inevitable, however today I couldn't get my rural duty into one york and went an hr and a half over my time ( 8.15 duty span). There needs to be some big big changes to your office.

Exactly. How do the union expect people who come in an hr early and run around with a bag on their shoulder to stand on a picket line? Though they probably would as they can't see that their actions are contributing to the problem.

So this would be a clock in - clock out system?

This makes sense. Though the problem with it from RM's side is that Posties will slow down. At the moment, a lot of the time we have to walk round like we are doing an Olympic Walk race and don't have time to pause.
Which is why they want to bring in an outdoor performance standard in, to make sure people dont slow down and the slower ones speed up

How exactly would that work. I used to work in Both the Army and the Prison Service, and we had annual fitness tests. Within my time in the Prison Service it was deemed that the test used ( Bleep Test\ Multi stage shuttle run ) was age discriminative and there were different pass standards for different age groups, Would royal mail do this or just get rid of older employees, Considering the retirement age is 67, how would this work.

I agree. As I say, the walks were revised when we had Amazon. Now, we don't. However, if they are adjusted again, and Amazon come back (rural area here so possible) then what happens then? There does need to be some kind of flexibility built in to rounds, when you are focussing on a parcel driven marketplace.

BS-NOT A SPRINT TEST SURELY; considering more outside work to be absorbed means the MARATHON just got longer (60+- miles per week) for minimum wage?! ACTUALLY, this will probably be the way forward and would route out 'deadwood' make old workers of young folk and kick the solidarity of membership in the genitals...break up the company into lots of fiefdoms and employ short term workers on s**t conditions...seems to be the Great British Tradition of remorselessly and shamelessly attacking our institutions: NHS/ POLICE/ AMBULANCE SERVICE/ FIRE BRIGADE/ COUNTY COUNCILS/ STATE SCHOOLING/ NATIONAL CURRICULUM/ FREE HIGHER EDUCATION/ PENSIONS/ SOCIAL CARE FOR ELDERLY/ SOCIAL CARE FOR DISABLED/ MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES/ PUBLIC TRANSPORT/ LOCAL COUNCIL SERVICES (BINS/TIPS/COUNCIL HOUSING & RELATED SERVICING)/FREEDOM OF THE PRESS . keep on keeping on and the rich keep getting richer...who exactly voted for this shower of sh1t - does no-one remember the Thatcher years - jeezus H.! dIVIDE & rULE IS ALL PRIVATISATION CONSIDERS and will continu to get away with unless you STAND TOGETHER...TODAY IS THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PETERLOO MASSACRE...Democracy is a dirty word in politics BUT NOT IN UNION MEMBERSHIP...All the union ever asked for was to work together with management...IF THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HONOUR THEIR LEGAL AGREEMENT, then "Standby"! we are warned :mad

The idea of most of my colleagues performing a bleep test has made my morning.
Fortunately we have people trained in emergency first aid.

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago but got a few cheeky replies. I don't take any delight in saying I told you so. Yous all need to stand together to fight this bullshit or the job and RM is finished. Are you going to let a guy fly into Britain for 4 days a week and throw a lot of you on to the scrap heap and you know that very soon the new posties will be starting on minimum wage, with crap pension of mminium 3/5% from employer, if lucky. On that note your do know that when you's were conned out of your DB pension and told that a new all singing all dancing pension would replace it, well that ain't going to happen and on the tiny chance that it does, the contributions from RM will be the legal minimum. Yous need to hit the streets and the union need to get better at explaining what exactly is going on with these asset stripping bastards in RMHQ. :evil/mad :no no

The job and RM has been finished for a long time.
We hit the streets, the share price drops (even further), there is a hostile takeover and the company will be run by people who make Rico look like a picture of philanthropy.
