Meal breaks
Just to hopefully stop this going round and round.
Our DOM gave us print outs last week of our last 4 weeks PDA readouts just to show us.
We do not take any of our break indoors, it showed those who take 20mins out and those who take no break (which I know isn't supposed to happen).
The other 20mins or 40mins for those that didn't were added to delivery times and anything else was unoccupied time.
Sorry it's a bit long but it just shows that outside breaks can be seen.

Nobody is scaremongering anyone into not taking their break. It is simply a matter of how it is scheduled in the era of the PDA actual.Rumple wrote: Please stop scaremongering delivery staff into not taking their break entitlement.

What do you mean by the other 20 or 40 minutes were added to delivery times? (I guess you mean if the delivery took 4 hours then it was put down the delivery took 4.20 or 4.40, which would be a true reflection)Neverwasadoor wrote: The other 20mins or 40mins for those that didn't were added to delivery times and anything else was unoccupied time.

It is fine to take a 20 minute meal break whilst out on delivery.

Yes, that is correct, and I am with you you can take the other 20mins outside. I was just pointing out that it shows up.

we take 20 mins before we go out, the other 2o mins for some is knocked off the end of the duty time, a manager came in and said this was to stop, all meal relief must be taken before duty end, if you go 20min before time then the data will show that, it didn't go down well! it went to the area manager, he said it was fine as the pda would account for that, don't ask me how, PDA data is new and it seems to have a lot of rumours about the data that it puts out and the interpretation of that data, we are back to 20 min before you go out, then if you want to take the other 20mins off finish its ok

I think it's when you regularly have a lot of posties in a delivery office returning from delivery say an hour or more early each day that you are certain to get some fallout. Or in terms of percentages probably 10% or more of total duty time not worked and there will be budget changes. Two or three percent and your office is less likely to attract attention.

What happens if you come back at your finish time and claim 20 minutes overtime because you haven't had the second part of your break?apple wrote:we take 20 mins before we go out, the other 2o mins for some is knocked off the end of the duty time, a manager came in and said this was to stop, all meal relief must be taken before duty end, if you go 20min before time then the data will show that, it didn't go down well! it went to the area manager, he said it was fine as the pda would account for that, don't ask me how, PDA data is new and it seems to have a lot of rumours about the data that it puts out and the interpretation of that data, we are back to 20 min before you go out, then if you want to take the other 20mins off finish its ok

Another's sparkling example of how offices are basically franchised, each running to their own rules. Where is the Union to well, unify the whole business. It stinks.apple wrote:no probs you get paid for it, if you haven't had it then you claim.clashcityrocker wrote:What happens if you come back at your finish time and claim 20 minutes overtime because you haven't had the second part of your break?apple wrote:we take 20 mins before we go out, the other 2o mins for some is knocked off the end of the duty time, a manager came in and said this was to stop, all meal relief must be taken before duty end, if you go 20min before time then the data will show that, it didn't go down well! it went to the area manager, he said it was fine as the pda would account for that, don't ask me how, PDA data is new and it seems to have a lot of rumours about the data that it puts out and the interpretation of that data, we are back to 20 min before you go out, then if you want to take the other 20mins off finish its ok

If they bring ahdc in you would have to sit in the office for your twenty minutes before clocking off or you wouldn't get paid it. That will be the end of anyone taking meal reliefs at the end of dutiesapple wrote:no probs you get paid for it, if you haven't had it then you claim.clashcityrocker wrote:What happens if you come back at your finish time and claim 20 minutes overtime because you haven't had the second part of your break?apple wrote:we take 20 mins before we go out, the other 2o mins for some is knocked off the end of the duty time, a manager came in and said this was to stop, all meal relief must be taken before duty end, if you go 20min before time then the data will show that, it didn't go down well! it went to the area manager, he said it was fine as the pda would account for that, don't ask me how, PDA data is new and it seems to have a lot of rumours about the data that it puts out and the interpretation of that data, we are back to 20 min before you go out, then if you want to take the other 20mins off finish its ok

If a FT's break begins at 9.40, then realistically they should be leaving the office for delivery at 10am earliest - it's UK legislation that an employer must give at least 20 minutes relief if working over so many hours (can't remember exactly) somewhere in the middle of their shift. If your duty time is 4.15 ( using rudimentary calculations, I know numbers can vary ) then you should be arriving back at the office around 2.20 (depending on how the duty is structured regarding travel time & delivery time). If you have delivered your full duty in the allocatedtime, and have arrived back at the office 20 minutes early, then how can the actuals, or higher management calculate that you have 20minutes extra time on your day? That is clearly the second half of your break.
To keep employees in the building until their official finish time would be venturing into illegal territory I'm sure, and to allow employees to take their final 20 minutes off site, but demand them to come back and sign out at the official time would be petty.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but it doesn't seem that difficult to me. Skipping a 40minute break and finishing one hour before you are supposed to suggests a 20minute discrepency in workload, not 1.20 hours.

Trouble is how do they prove that the employee actually took their break and didn't just simply bugger off home?Alexei wrote:To keep employees in the building until their official finish time would be venturing into illegal territory I'm sure, and to allow employees to take their final 20 minutes off site, but demand them to come back and sign out at the official time would be petty.

We're entitled to bugger off home.SpacePhoenix wrote:Trouble is how do they prove that the employee actually took their break and didn't just simply bugger off home?Alexei wrote:To keep employees in the building until their official finish time would be venturing into illegal territory I'm sure, and to allow employees to take their final 20 minutes off site, but demand them to come back and sign out at the official time would be petty.
That's stated clearly in the way forward agreement.
Breaks at the beginning or end of attendance
Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off. A single break should not be scheduled at the beginning or end of the attendance.
