Unfortunately this PDA stuff is something we all have to just accept and get used to it. As it will get alot worse. Changes will happen slowly or quickly, whether we like it or not.
RM are only just catching up to other companies in technology terms. BT track their engineers, so does the water companies. No doubt alot of others too. So why would we be treated any different?
Just do the job as instructed then you have nothing to worry about.

A new software update will ensure of an electric shock if you deviate from your route.SpacePhoenix wrote: They can see if you go off-route. I suspect that with the new thing that's been brought in, it might flag up automatically when someone goes off-route

Ha!brilliantpostslippete wrote:The worst thing the Union ever did was simply accept that these PDAs should be used once they became aware of its 'big brother' style function. The wording of the agreement surrounding them does states that they shouldn't be used to conduct posties and that its simply PDA actuals to predict traffic blah blah blah and yet its got a function on it that flags up on the managers screen as a great big yellow dot when the postie was simply having a call of nature.
Great this technology isn't it? It tells managers that postie 57 was also stood on the street corner for 20 minutes because postie 59 (the van driver) was delivering big parcels. Surely a monumental concern for Royal Mail as well because time is money, especially if postie 57 and 59 then drive back into the yard and claim 20 minutes overtime. The DOM will surely be bringing them into the office for discussions as to why they are allowed to wait for each other.

Its only used to understand why you may be booking overtime.
If you dont book overtime, theyll never bother to look at the yellow dot. So dont worry.

So what happens when you have to wait 10/30 mins for bags to be dropped off when driver stuck in traffic?
What about when you are stood at one of the busiest roads going and it can take 5/10 mins to cross?(City centres)
What about when you go to office blocks with dozens of firms/receptionists all busy serving customers(on each floor) ....do we push our way to the front and run the risk our upsetting the very customers we rely on because pda actuals flag up if we are in one place too long??
Toilet breaks...is there a limit for a poo and pee?
Residential blocks where lifts break down/6 storey plus...use intercoms and customers take around 4/5 mins to come down...(often having to do this several times for each customer) unless we walk up fire escapes/stairs which all takes time and a great deal of effort when carrying a bag!
What about if you get a no answer ...and try several other neighbours as directed by managers/Royal Mail and even the pda...all taking more time...
What about when you are faced with inclement weather such as the heatwave we had last week...can we stop and sit down to have a sip of water or is this too risky?
PDA actuals are nothing but a hindrance and if anything will only harm relations between staff and managers and staff and customers....one Royal Mail

Nothing happens, none of those events are your fault and out of your control. If questioned, you have a reason for those events.postypie wrote:So what happens when you have to wait 10/30 mins for bags to be dropped off when driver stuck in traffic?

Not sure about that. We have been told they are checking to see if you can get more added onto your delivery. So standing about causing yellow dots to appear means you have time to do more work.Regal wrote:Its only used to understand why you may be booking overtime.

Our manager has admitted that they look at the pda readings every day .Regal wrote:Its only used to understand why you may be booking overtime.

With the amount of packets that have got barcodes on them now, I find it hard to believe that there are some loops with nothing to scan

Bet they love that, especially if they have it in for someone,I know I sound so cynical, but I saw it so often when the DOM and Lino had it in for certain posties, especially if they were getting older and they wanted to replace them with younger ones. I know it happened to me.Sputters2017 wrote:Our manager has admitted that they look at the pda readings every day .Regal wrote:Its only used to understand why you may be booking overtime.

Has any office "started" their revision based on the Actuals? Do you know if they are planning it based on the current 38 hour week or taking the agreed hour drop into consideration? If they ignore the agreed hour/eventual aim of a 35 hour week, the revisions will be a massive waste of money if CWU gets progress on the 4P's.

This really depends on the manager. It's a new toy for them and they are abusing it.

Happens very occasionally - I think I've delivered two loops this year that had no scans required. But it's definitely unusual.SpacePhoenix wrote:With the amount of packets that have got barcodes on them now, I find it hard to believe that there are some loops with nothing to scan
