With straps on the PDA's all missing or snapped it's a right pita trying to carry them whilst also juggling your bundle and a pkt or two, I always leave my PDA in the van if nothing needs scanning or signing for rather than carrying it everywhere just to prevent a silly yellow dot showing up.

They can see if you go off-route. I suspect that with the new thing that's been brought in, it might flag up automatically when someone goes off-routeTrail wrote:I think the issue might be 'static'. Me and one of the lads I was out with finished so early we cleared off to the local Tesco Superstore to pick up the new U2 CD for his girlfriend. We never got picked up on it.
I'm surprised that they've not questioned you about why the PDA hasn't moved. They might try and add some more to your walk if they suspect that you've got too much timewacko74 wrote:With straps on the PDA's all missing or snapped it's a right pita trying to carry them whilst also juggling your bundle and a pkt or two, I always leave my PDA in the van if nothing needs scanning or signing for rather than carrying it everywhere just to prevent a silly yellow dot showing up.

When I have my meal relief I always send a memo from the pda saying 'meal relief'.One day last week one of my managers asked me how i do it as he said he wanted to tell everyone else how to do it!

If you are stationary then a yellow dot appears on their dashboard.twoloops wrote:Where is this yellow dot? On the PDA?
You can't see it on your PDA.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The trouble with this is another stick to use to pick on certain posties,it happened at my old office, and no doubt it still happens.

Use one of those belt pda holders, great they are, miles better than the one that you put over your shoulder or stuffing the pda into a pocket.wacko74 wrote:With straps on the PDA's all missing or snapped it's a right pita trying to carry them whilst also juggling your bundle and a pkt or two, I always leave my PDA in the van if nothing needs scanning or signing for rather than carrying it everywhere just to prevent a silly yellow dot showing up.

The worst thing the Union ever did was simply accept that these PDAs should be used once they became aware of its 'big brother' style function. The wording of the agreement surrounding them does states that they shouldn't be used to conduct posties and that its simply PDA actuals to predict traffic blah blah blah and yet its got a function on it that flags up on the managers screen as a great big yellow dot when the postie was simply having a call of nature.
Great this technology isn't it? It tells managers that postie 57 was also stood on the street corner for 20 minutes because postie 59 (the van driver) was delivering big parcels. Surely a monumental concern for Royal Mail as well because time is money, especially if postie 57 and 59 then drive back into the yard and claim 20 minutes overtime. The DOM will surely be bringing them into the office for discussions as to why they are allowed to wait for each other.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

What happens when your PDA crashes and you take the battery out to restart it?
..... and then forget to put it back in

If that (unlikely) scenario should rear its ugly head then I would hope you possess the streetwise to shoot some bull and blame it on their system.weary_posty wrote:What happens when your PDA crashes and you take the battery out to restart it?

Royal Mail won't sack you unless you've done something grave, being stuck in one place due to what you've proposed above is merely incidental to them.

Been through the mill with this one, the yellow dot starts to build up from the first minute of stationary and they can question this at properties, at the back of the van when you are loading bags/trolleys, at Post offices picking up/dropping off. All another stick to beat you and aas long as you are doing the job correctly they cannot take you down the conduct code. My favourite is when you have been delivering to a neighbour the yellow blob builds up, they know it takes time but national policy is that you do it and they find that very hard to deal with as linos want to you to race round and finish within your time taking no breaks, docketing everything with only a cursory knock etc. They simply don't have an answer to that one and have to pay you.
