Royal mail give you absolute minimum protection to avoid sun burn and sun stroke, Its borderline negligence on their behalf. They should provide you with sunblock, hats that don't look as ridiculous as the wide beam hats, zero lapsing and no deliveries between 11.00 and 1.00pm if the temp goes above 30 C. If a postie gets skin cancer they should sue Royal Mail, I think they would win that case.

They cannot provide you with sun block or sun cream in case of allergic reaction. Same thing if you have a headache.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Yeah I totally agree - it’s much worse for people who are pushing HCT trolleys then in vans. Our office started 30mins earlier to get out before the heat! Made the difference for sureBrandy wrote:I am sorry but RM just dont care about the health and safety of their posties, they used to years ago,but not anymore. Its all about money now.

Four bottles of ice-cold water handed to me from thoughtful residents today.

So why do they supply hand wash/soap? The same case could be made for them.
The reason is they are a bunch of greedy sods that care more about saving a few pennies here and there then the safety of their workers.
Anyway, they can provide you with the funds to buy your own, just like they do to clean your uniform.

Well put, another mismanaged debarkle,we shouldn’t expect anything less, keep the culture of fear alive however hot it gets,a common sense approach once again sadly lacking in this company, with the macho just get on with it fraternity rising to the challenge,I dispairdeltaforce wrote:No contingency plans at all other than you can start a bit earlier to get out to avoid peak time heat. Didn’t work. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even have a risk assement on the situation. NHS stated that no one should go out between 11 till 3. Pushing your body in extreme heat has dangers including heart attacks and heat stroke. I’m not sure why R M didn’t take this a bit more seriously.. we could have prep the walks and just delivered packets today and cleared up letters tomorrow. It would have left us with less exposure to the heat

Well said, another mismanaged debarkle, shamefull, but you wouldn’t expect anything less, keep the culture of fear alive in the heat, but the macho fraternity will just say get on with it,big organisations are well prepared and common since kicks in and get praise from employees and good advertising through the media etc, good old Royal Mail, remain quiet and blinkered as per usual as to the contingency plans in this weather, that’s because they haven’t got one, deltaforce wrote:No contingency plans at all other than you can start a bit earlier to get out to avoid peak time heat. Should overtime be banned as well?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You know RM management don't care about our welfare when they insist on lapsing on a day like that and they wonder why they get less and less goodwill from their staff.

I wouldn't be surprised if sick goes through the roof today because people will be suffering the after effects of dehydration. My local council sent out a text to residents saying the bin collections had been suspended at noon due to the heat. RM should of used their plan they use in the winter if it snows. A couple of loops and the rest of the delivery doing specials and packets.
I had a bit of a dig at the H&S manager at the office who tried justifying what the computer said. Apparently he had put all the data in the severe weather tool on the computer and it came back as 'Tolerable'...I told him that is probably the highest level it goes to. RM should of got the USO suspended for the day!

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Has anyone else's office got rid of plastic cups for the water dispensing machine? Ours got rid of them earlier this summer because of environmental reasons.

everyone said today they were virtually on their knees after yesterday, we got the "well done" this morning "but if you can help us out due to some ringing in sick"
they put them on the sick!
no respite even though it was a tad cooler and extremely light for a friday,
no consideration to the toil of yesterday, it's like all that's gone now and you've all slept well and raring to go again,
we aren't professional athletes, we need time to recover but not in RM's eyes
