We need to be more informed the way i saw things was the 35 hour week was a target to get to via savings and savings have not been made not sure how they thought you could save money by cutting the working week to 35 hours. Do you think we would vote to strike if we stay on a 38 hour week? i would vote no if that was the only issue.

Royal Mail is under a great deal of pressure from the regulator to improve efficiency.
In simple terms if you do the same amount of work in less hours you are by definition more efficient.

On paper it looked like a cheap way of addressing a particular problem however the increase particularly in the part-time and overtime wage bill has been more significant than expected and plans to cut indoor hours using ideas like bench merging, route optimisation and one wave have proven to be almost unworkable.

In my opinion they simply don't have the quality of manager capable of managing change effectively at local level, too many of these DOMs and line managers are stuck in the past unable to engage staff properly and of the opinion that the louder you shout the harder people work.

They are fire fighters not managers, only happy in headless chicken mode because that's what they think makes them useful to the business but fire fighting is the most inefficient form of management, especially if it's your incompetence that lights the fire in the first place.

Some duties in my DO are back at home for 11.30 and most start at least 45 mins early and work there breaks..
These members think because there pds are turned off managers are unaware that they are sat at home..
Members continue to put there head in the sand and can't see the bigger picture.. How can you get the message through to these idiots.

I am not sure how the maths stack up.
An hour off the working week is about a 2.5% pay increase.
How that could be funded because we accepted 1% less last time (apparently) is a mystery to me.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

RM will soon enough get the message through. Its already against policy to have your PDA turned off. If its turned off, they know when and where it was turned off. They'll know that they finished their duty and so when they decide to use the data they'll be in for a shock when they get another 2hrs of delivery slapped on them.
Just stick to your times and deliver the way they want you to, play the smart easy game, it'll catch up with the others soon enough. There will be no escaping the inevitable.

I'm sure the speed/m.p.h. on the pda will come into play at some point too, anyone doing under 3 m.p.h. are going too slow they'll say I reckon, this and the red dot which shows how long you've been static will catch a lot of people out eventually.

I'll list these things again:

-Encourage the public to get parcel boxes. If most properties had a parcel box then it would save a lot of time for Posties. Does Royal Mail even sell these themselves? if not - why not? provide an installation service. I understand that parcel boxes may not be that popular as people won't want to pay out for one + some can look unsightly, so there might not be a huge uptake. If so, offer a low price, even if RM just break even on the sale and installation of these - they will be rewarded with a more efficient service.

-Sort out the machines that are failing to void stamps. I'm sure that each day a ridiculous amount of post is delivered with a reusable stamp.

-Is a Signed For service even needed? Just use tracked, scan it and post it.

Also gives RM scope to add more to walks and potentially axe a load of jobs

Probably as simple as the ink tanks not being refilled on the stamp cancelling printers

Don't forget that Tracked also has a signature option so it wouldn't make any difference in DOs, but would mean more stuff to scan in MCs

Thats ok as long as they show equality and tell people who are going 5mph to slow down for being to fast.

his words clash, anyway, perhaps dingo/martin walsh or whoever can clarify. are we getting the extra hour off in October, or is it being rescinded/revoked/reneged?
