Just put up a notice on the union board about withdrawing the political levy and giving members the option. Getting loads of replies and will be sending them all off together. That will be a busy day for someone.

(After all they were formed by our unions as the political wing of the working man and woman.) I feel like its the tail wagging the dog. But its a shame we cant donate to the branch so that the good work that could be done still gets done and we would not have to give money to "New Labour." Any who many thanks for answering my question i will just have to keep paying the levy and protest to the CWU about the Labour thing.

There you are! We aren't too far away from sharing an opinion. I'd be happy for my branch to keep every penny rather than see the cah go towards something like securing cushy Labour Party jobs for the likes of Alan Johnson.
One Theory doing the rounds about Johnson was that Johnson came to "Red" Billy for support / campaign money assistance for DPM as a "deserved favour" and as a courtesy tried to nominate but came back with the sorry Alan we tried but the lads won't wear it . I don't really believe that as Johnson was backed financially by the likes of Lord Sainsbury. The other candidates had some very "interesting" backers as well, so it'd seem Biscuit Barrel Billy was definately trying to curry favour with New Liebour .

You can always guarantee , come a general election , The Voice will be turned into a glorified New Liebour pamplet thanks to our good mate Billy Hayes .

There's definately reform needed especially when a former T&G Officer comes on here saying he wouldn't touch the CWU with a barge pole , all about feathering nests at Wimbledon.

Split the levy along similar lines as Unison http://www.unison.org.uk/politicalcampaigning/ , once done mbrs then decide to opt in to both levies , just one levy or dont pay into a politcal levy at all.

Its so simple and the most democratic way and once done we can all concentrate our engeries on issuses far more important than CWU affilation to the Labour party.

Totally - I'm happy to provide money to political campaigning, and some of that will no doubt go to some Labour candidates, not a problem - most of them will no doubt still have their principles.....but there is no way I'm happy for my money to go to the ungrateful bunch of oxygen thieves now known as the Anti-Labour Party & residing in SW1 :evil/mad

This is what is needed, a labour majority at the next election, but those who form the cabinet lose their seats.

Trouble is most of the hardline New Labour types who hold Government and Cabinet jobs are in safe Labour seats oop North.
I think the best we can hope for is a hung Parliament without the necessary majority to push through major changes - such as the privatisation of Royal Mail, which I fear may be in the next election manifesto.

I am 100% convinced that privatisation WILL NOT be in the next Labour PARTY manifesto.

It was only back in December that John Hutton made it quite clear that privatisation is not on the agenda.

Like you 100% convinced privatisation won't appear in the manifesto. Also convinced100% that privatisation will be carried out ,it will continue to be called market liberalisation and they will add on efficiency restructuring. RM will consist purely of part time workforce delivering the final mile for minimum wage.

Dont forget it is a current (2005) manifesto commitment to see RM fully restored to good health, the gov have to work out how to achieve that!

Two points/questions
1 What makes you confident that New Labour intend to honour this particular commitment?

2 Do you think that there is a possibility that if this manifesto pledge is enacted that the politicians definition of an in the pink RM might differ significantly from what you envisage?
