What managers don’t realise is if they get rid of managers we will still have posties yet get rid of posties and we don’t have the need for managers. They need us more than we need them.

About time.
Was always disgusted that managers could get the sort of bonuses they were getting, off our backs, our labour, our sweat.
And not do a hands turn to contribute towards such lavish rewards.

Judging by the standards of one or two of the managers at our DO they should be paying RM a bonus for keeping them in a job.
They take the profits, you take the blame
When they tell you there's no rise in pay

Just to update this thread, this is what Unite have sent to the managers this morning, (I`m not one before anyone asks :Very Happy )

TO ALL UNITE MEMBERS IN ROYAL MAIL GROUP

Dear colleagues
You would have had a communication last week from the Unite/CMA senior reps explaining our position with regard to the Royal Mail’s decision, to not pay bonus this year to all managers. Whilst Unite recognises that the bonus is and has always been discretional, there is a clear expectation from the membership that this will be paid and they adjust their finances accordingly. The late announcement may in itself cause some hardship this year.
Your reps did make very strong representations to the business and asked them to reverse the decision and pay out the bonus. It was stated very clearly that this would have an impact on morale and at a time when the “five year plan” was being put in place this would not lead to Unite members stepping up to do more
Whilst Unite were instrumental in getting the business to make the one-off gesture payment, we do not accept that it was enough, nor did we agree to the link to performance that was also built in. We will continue to question the business around this decision and to get a much clearer understanding of the reasons behind the non-payment and the targets that were missed.
In the meantime we are due shortly to meet the business in regard to the annual pay award and clearly the loss of bonus will have an impact on our expectations from those negotiations. We need every member to get behind our pay claim and if the offer falls short of our aspirations then we ask that you stay united with your union and senior reps to fight for more. Whilst the bonus is a discretionary benefit and one we don’t have the final say on, your annual pay award is negotiated by your union and you have the final say on this when it goes to ballot. For the senior managers not in the collective bargaining community, we will of course keep you fully abreast of developments as we continue to push the business on pay and the bonus decision.

unless they are looking for a battle I think it's unlikely for 2 reasons.
1. It isn't discretionary.
2. It's a contractual collective agreement
