RM are going to need a fair few more staff on LAT duties, a rough guess would be around 5,000 Tracked items per LAT hub locally
What is rehab for!

The problem with this is you are still believing there will be 35 hours work/week for a full timer to do without massively increasing the delivery span.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

RM can increase the delivery span all they like , if you are paid for 35 hours then thats all you need to work.

I don't think you have understood.
What if there isn't 35 hours/week work left for a full timer to do?
RM can't increase the delivery span all they like because everyone knows there is a limit to what is humanly possible.

How would there not be enough work to justify a 35 hour week , RM want to remove the large parcels from most offices , this is only a fraction of the work we do on a daily basis .

Yes a 7 day week is inevitable for tracked and specials but not for letters and d2ds , so if Royal Mail put mon to fri , 35 hour week and no redundancy on the table then that woul cause the union a problem in my opinion as they are opposed to a 5 day week but the members would be in favour of it.
The union leaders who are against and five day mon-fri working week work mon-fri themselves. They won't be seen near the place on a saturday!

Totally agree , that’s why I feel if RM are looking to go down this route the idea shouldn’t be binned by the union until their members have had their say.

I think what they want to do is remove anything that won't fit through a letter box from delivery.
Currently only about 10% of the letters and flats in my DO go through the IPS. It is all sequenced or in the case of the flats, currently in buddy trays.
It isn't too much of a stretch to see them coming back with bench merging as an option.
Very little indoor work - so either a massive outdoor span or no more full time employment. Even at 35 hours/week.

I seriously think there is a lot of scaremongering going on at the minute and I understand that the union would want to do this .Seriously though if they removed everything above letter box size they might as well close all delivery offices.Things seem to have gone from shoe box size to letter box size very quickly.

I have no interest in scaremongering.

Not saying you have but the story seems to have moved from anything above shoe box size to anything above letter box size . That is a big difference and accounts for a lot of work .Maybe RM and the union need to make things clearer but I guess both have their own agendas .

you all seem to be missing one point on the sat/sun delivering parcels only theory, if you dont work in a LAT hub (the majority of us) you ain't got no parcels to deliver in the week let alone on a sat/sun.

It's a good point and I would add that even if you are an LAT hub you might not be for long.
We are an LAT hub, there's another 5 miles away, that only makes sense in the beginning when you're trying to set something like this up. It makes no sense in the long term.

The end game for Royal Mail as far as medium/large parcels/tracked has to be the same model other couriers use, massive purpose built centralised hubs covering huge geographical areas, possibly as little as 30-50 covering the whole of the UK.

That's where the savings are.

well i was thinking the end game might be all the non LAT offices getting absorbed into the LAT offices but having visited one today and being made to wait 20 minutes while five vans were moved to get mine out i dont think they've got the capacity unless there thinking of building super sized delivery offices at some point/or getting rid of 90% of the vans swapping the rest to trucks with crewcabs so they can take 10 posties plus there hct and dispatch them where required then go back for the parcels.

There will be NO seven day week for letter delivery, it will move to 5 days only, which 5 who knows??? Mon-Fri is what everybody wants, any other day and we'd strike. The Union know this and so have to be wise when agreeing with RM on their proposals and vice versa. Parcel deliveries on the other hand will go to 7 days on a rota basis. The Union must insist on a 35 hour week to keep EVR's to a minimum but with significant savings for shareholder greed. If they both parties take this route then disruption would be kept to a minimum and any other way would be a battle.
CUT OFF!!!
