A Highland pensioner suffering with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has been left without medical supplies for weeks because posties refuse to deliver to their home.

Valerie and Ronald Moffat, 67 and 68, began experiencing issues seven years ago after the Royal Mail refused to deliver post to their home because it was too dangerous.

Castle View Cottage, near Drumnadrochit, sits on a tight bend on the busy A82 Fort William to Inverness trunk road, opposite Glenurquhart Castle.

Due to its location a special exemption from Royal Mail not to deliver to the house left the couple no choice but to travel the two-mile journey to the nearest post office every day to collect mail.

However, for the last month the couple have not received any mail at all, leaving Mrs Moffat in short supply of her daily medical supplies or notifications of hospital appointments.

Mr Moffat said: “Parcel Force usually delivers personal medical supplies to her from down south but they are not getting delivered. They might be getting delivered to the Post Office but we are not getting them.

“Luckily we haven’t missed any hospital appointments, but they are normally delivered to give you a week to six weeks’ notice.

“But when we collected the post the other day there were hospital appointments there and they are for next week.”

Mr Moffat – who is recovering from injuries sustained in a serious car crash – said he was now forced to make the journey every morning to catch the postie.

He added: “The only way I can get the post is to get up at 7am in the morning and drive down there before the posties leave. It’s ridiculous.

“The postmaster for whatever reason is not taking delivery of the post, he’s not getting the correct paperwork. I don’t blame him, I blame the actions of the Royal Mail and the Post Office.”

The Post Office has said it is now working to resolve the issue.

A spokeswoman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to Mrs Moffat and her family and we will be speaking to the postmaster to help resolve this issue as a matter of urgency.”

Bad journalism again - the problem is that there is some problem getting mail from the DO to the PO where they collect it from. Posties don't deliver
because it's too dangerous, you can see it on Google Street View - blind bend and driveway which you can only exit in one direction and I can imagine
traffic goes way too fast on that road.
