Spot on , why do people struggle with this concept and just scream commercial suicide.wacko74 wrote:rubberbond wrote:I doubt they would accept it , or except,it whatever that means. We'd still be free to deliver the commercially viable and profitable items 7 days a week (pkts, specials etc)
It's the loss making stuff (letters) that could be restricted to 5 days.

Only if there is sufficient work to warrant a seven day service otherwise it would be pointless.

But if we did work 7 days per week, for parcels not mail, we should generate more parcel business.deltaforce wrote:Only if there is sufficient work to warrant a seven day service otherwise it would be pointless.

Can anyone see this extra parcel thingworking? In my little office alone we have 500/600 oversized parcels on average as well as the tracked and we cover a 50/60 mile radius easily between us.
Whoever is delivering all these parcels is going to have go some to get it done within 4 1/2 hrs.
in my former office they would average 3000 oversized per day plus tracked. There only working over a 20 mile radius tho.

If RM want a mon-fri for delivering letters, d2d, small packets etc., the union should go in with a 35 hour week on this basis and that should be the trade off, evr's would be the only way to reduce staff levels and it would get 100% backing from all staff with no strike action but if RM opt for Tuesday removal then the union would get a 100% backing from staff to vote for strike action.

Exactly how I see it but I suspect the union will fight to keep the uso for 6 days due to job losses but if they actually put it to the work force we would back it .Phantom wrote:If RM want a mon-fri for delivering letters, d2d, small packets etc., the union should go in with a 35 hour week on this basis and that should be the trade off, evr's would be the only way to reduce staff levels and it would get 100% backing from all staff with no strike action but if RM opt for Tuesday removal then the union would get a 100% backing from staff to vote for strike action.

Mon- Fri is a non starter, and it is misleading members of this site or the CWU or the workforce to think it's on the cards. We now live in a 24/7 society and dropping tuesdays, wednesdays or whatever in the week is much more acceptable than a saturday when there is a better chance of capturing the homeowner in. Why not have a real conversation about 2 days off in the week with saturdays and sundays in? lets see who's in favour of that, no body i'd guess and i'm with them. Honestly, mon-fri suits posties, not the customer.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Personally my ideal hours/job would be working around 18 hours over sat/sun delivering parcels and mon-fri off.bogstandard wrote:Mon- Fri is a non starter, and it is misleading members of this site or the CWU or the workforce to think it's on the cards. We just need RM to confirm what they mean by "Next Day", they can't mean all 1st class packets as there's no way anu Hub would have the capacity. The only thing that I can thnk of is that SDs will go via the new hubs and not MCs.Celgar wrote:On balance the new parcels strategy & switching to a five day operation will be bad for us.
It was confirmed on the initial release of the five year plan to the financial media that the Tracked items will go direct to the LAT hubs for delivery with the new parcels strategy. It has just been confirmed again on page four of the Courier: " Three new fully-automated parcel hubs will be built to handle ALL next day, larger and Tracked parcels. A separate van delivery for these items will be routed through potentially 200-300 of our large delivery offices."
We also need RM to confirm whether any items not delivered by the hubs will get sent back to them by the local MC or to the DO that they're "proper to".
A VERY LARGE chunk of what we send out to DOs as packets are technically large letterswacko74 wrote:rubberbond wrote:I doubt they would accept it , or except,it whatever that means. It says in the courier that deliveries will continue delivering ‘letterboxable’ parcels along with mail making it easier for the postal workers on their deliveries. Isn’t this implying that anything that can’t be put through the letterbox will go to the 200-300 lat offices?

Nope. Its class 3 & 4, whatever they are, or larger than shoebox size. If you have been a postie for a number of years, back when we used bikes, at one point we had a yellow piece of metal with a rectangular hole in it. Anything that didn't go through that hole was classed as oversize and it was given to the parcels/firms delivery. That's the kind of size they are talking about. In this new scenario you will still deliver packets and small parcels so you will still be knocking on doors. The Postman wrote:It says in the courier that deliveries will continue delivering ‘letterboxable’ parcels along with mail making it easier for the postal workers on their deliveries. I don't think the 'next day' refers to SDs but if/when they are allowed to move to a five day operation for usual posties next year on Saturdays the SDs would have to go to the LAT hubs. I would imagine the price for those would go higher than the current surcharged amount for Saturday delivery. As mentioned again in the latest Courier newspaper it still sounds like intention is for ALL the Tracked items to go to the LAT hubs as well.

Until very recently I would have agreed with you that if they went for a five day operation it would the Tuesday that would go. Since it has been leaked from the union I feel it probably is being pursued by RM give that all they ever go on about is cost cutting. It will save them a load of money with all the five day cover duties going, cancellation of the RRIS payment which is £1800 off posties annual wage, and other costings such as heating, lighting, vehicle costs etc. It's sort of a no-brainer to be honest for RM bosses with tunnel vision.bogstandard wrote:Mon- Fri is a non starter, and it is misleading members of this site or the CWU or the workforce to think it's on the cards. RM are going to need a fair few more staff on LAT duties, a rough guess would be around 5,000 Tracked items per LAT hub locallyCelgar wrote:As mentioned again in the latest Courier newspaper it still sounds like intention is for ALL the Tracked items to go to the LAT hubs as well.
