Since the PDA app was allowed to have 13 months of PDA trend data and to identify where the PDA stops at locations , lots of managers have been doing a deep dive to identify things such as where individuals are stopping for longer than usual and this has thrown up such things as the PDA is in the house of an employee or stopped at a cafe ect.
People need to understand that Royal Mail’s strategy on use of digital technology, real time recording is designed to introduce work standards and that is why they are ant to now use the 13 month trend data to see how long a loop has taken or walk has taken by a rest day cover , duty holder , reserve or on overtime to what is the most efficient way.
Don’t believe that as long as you start on time and work to your time your some how immune to this strategy. You might walk at one mile an hour and work your time but the reserve does it at 3 miles per hour and finishes it early , than that information will be used by managers to increase the work performance of the individual who was waking at one mile per hour.
This is why the CWU is opposed to the use of PDA’s for resourcing or doing revisions and that is what Royal Mail want to use this information to introduce work standards and increase productivity. The PDA trend data will see if overtime is actually needed or if a part timer is needed any extra hours to complete.

Aren't we in danger of being punished for doing our jobs properly though with that approach? Going at a steady pace means fewer mistakes, using lwts, trying neighbours for parcels and generally avoiding cutting corners etc??

its a shame it doesn't clock people starting 1-2 hours before there time and that's another reason people can get done before there time as well .

So there it is in black and white from someone who knows, the pda data isn't going to be the driving force for a an equal workload for those who go over it will be used to make them move faster so they don't go over, what a suprise I really thought like lots on here that they would be used for the benefit of hard done to postie's in every office. Bet their will be a few who have been begging for PDA actuals to be used who are back tracking now

why back tracking ? you can only go as fast as you can due to age , injurys , and I have one speed and its trolley speed and if that's not quick enough its tough s**t and I wont be changing the way I work , and it will still be used so people aren't finishing 2 hours early everyday .citypostie wrote:So there it is in black and white from someone who knows, the pda data isn't going to be the driving force for a an equal workload for those who go over it will be used to make them move faster so they don't go over, what a suprise I really thought like lots on here that they would be used for the benefit of hard done to postie's in every office. And then they will manage you out the door for not working to the correct standardworktotime wrote:why back tracking ? you can only go as fast as you can due to age , injurys , and I have one speed and its trolley speed and if that's not quick enough its tough s**t and I wont be changing the way I work , and it will still be used so people aren't finishing 2 hours early everyday .citypostie wrote:So there it is in black and white from someone who knows, the pda data isn't going to be the driving force for a an equal workload for those who go over it will be used to make them move faster so they don't go over, what a suprise I really thought like lots on here that they would be used for the benefit of hard done to postie's in every office. Now who is being a negative Norman?number one wrote:

What if the performance standards are set so low (due to age and sex discrimination laws) that they are virtually meaningless for the vast majority of RM staff?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Then the whole process would have been pointless and a waste of moneyclashcityrocker wrote:Now who is being a negative Norman?number one wrote:

Pointless and a waste of money are their middle names.

So if someone finishes an hour early and they check their data and it turns out they've done loops faster than what the data says it should take what will they do? Encourage them to go slower ? Give them more work( off someone working below the standard?) Or nothing?worktotime wrote:why back tracking ? you can only go as fast as you can due to age , injurys , and I have one speed and its trolley speed and if that's not quick enough its tough s**t and I wont be changing the way I work , and it will still be used so people aren't finishing 2 hours early everyday .citypostie wrote:So there it is in black and white from someone who knows, the pda data isn't going to be the driving force for a an equal workload for those who go over it will be used to make them move faster so they don't go over, what a suprise I really thought like lots on here that they would be used for the benefit of hard done to postie's in every office. It would make for a very interesting question for managers to answer

then so be it . until this so called work standard has been agreed with the CWU ( which it wont be as they have said ) , I will continue doing the job right to the best of my ability as the cwu want us to do .number one wrote:And then they will manage you out the door for not working to the correct standardworktotime wrote:why back tracking ? you can only go as fast as you can due to age , injurys , and I have one speed and its trolley speed and if that's not quick enough its tough s**t and I wont be changing the way I work , and it will still be used so people aren't finishing 2 hours early everyday .citypostie wrote:So there it is in black and white from someone who knows, the pda data isn't going to be the driving force for a an equal workload for those who go over it will be used to make them move faster so they don't go over, what a suprise I really thought like lots on here that they would be used for the benefit of hard done to postie's in every office. I guess in theory you could stick to your guns and say the PDA is incorrect and theyd be left having nowhere else to go,
You need to be careful if you decide to escalate a minor issue into a possible gross misconduct position by being blatantly dishonest.
Managers have been known to be less than honest, if the manager says it's nothing to do with the PDA and they have patrolled your delivery and witnessed you taking longer than 40 minutes it is you who has nowhere to go.
At the very least it will make you a target.

So are you telling me that if I come in on time and use all correct delivery methods that I will be conducted because the next person works for free and doesn’t use the correct delivery methods because it’s quicker ?

I think that is what some people want to scare you into believing.Pidleypoo wrote:So are you telling me that if I come in on time and use all correct delivery methods that I will be conducted because the next person works for free and doesn’t use the correct delivery methods because it’s quicker ?
If that was the case every delivery office would end up with only one worker......
Though Whistl operated a policy where you were constantly measured against the fastest worker. (Best boy policy?)
I remember one of their posties moaning that people were losing their jobs because they couldn't keep to the standards set.

Not sure what rules you are breaking, perhaps the only one is making yourself available for work but unless you are sitting in your van for 2 hours I can't see that is relevant. Perhaps they should give you more absorption but then that should also apply to everyone - has she checked the whole office?
As far as I'm aware there is nothing in our contract that states you can't have 2 hours break but you should work or be available to work for the length of time specified by your shift.
