This is for every single person that reads this as a bit of advice for the future.....do not start before your time , do not work over your time for free , do use all correct delivery’s methods and ensure all bags are the correct weight and use trolleys , do take your meal relief.

If you follow the above you won’t have a thing to worry about in regards to pda actuals.

Where does it say that they can't be used?
I think it comes under the heading of "urban myth" where people repeat something often enough and consequently believe it to be true.
I believe the original agreement specifically stated there were occasions when the conduct code could be used but never said what they were.
RM & CWU NATIONAL AGREEMENT COVERING THE USE OF PDA OUTDOOR ACTUALS

Page 3

Employee Engagement

Both parties want to promote openness and transparency about the fact that this App has been deployed to all PDA devices and that data is being generated, so all employees will receive a standard WTLL briefing on this subject from their manager, stating this is purely a Technical/Software application change and they will see nothing change.

This new technology is not being introduced to track individuals or to be used for individual performance management and therefore it is confirmed that the data generated will not be used for this.

In line with section 17 of the 2018 Guiding Principles Agreement on data usage both parties recognise that new technology will improve Royal Mail’s performance and the service provided to customers. It is agreed that all individuals have a right to privacy at work and it is accepted that there is a mutual obligation of confidence and trust applied to every contract of employment and that all parties should act in a way so as not to break that relationship.

It is recognised that the use of technology may increase levels of individual visibility and it is agreed that this new technology is not being deployed for, or will be used as, a disciplinary tool. As such it will not enhance the ability of managers, or the evidence available, to take disciplinary action.
In section 17 it also says that they can consult HR in certain circumstances. That is their get out clause, the same as when they insert the words normally will be discounted in the attendance procedure for accidents or discounting disability and the union it must be said have really excelled themselves at protecting our members in that respect, If you think these charlies aren't going to use it to bounce people out of a job then good for you.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

What happens if your on a rural round obviously you take the pda it out the van when I do my housing estates but usually if it’s a rural call I scan the 2d or tracked item in the van then deliver it but leave pda in van

Your correct, it does and it also looks like a get out clause from their previous agreement. I guess it then comes down to whether it was deemed that the circumstances were exceptional enough to breach someone’s privacy at work.

Always take mine with me. Even just to one house. We were told by our rep just to get into the habit of taking it with you everywhere. So that's what I do.

I haven't got around to asking to have a look at the PDA actuals interface yet but you can ask to do so and see your own personal data if you choose to. When the PDA doesn't move for more than a minute it pings a yellow dot on the interface which gets larger the longer the stationary time is. RM have this information so they will use it to ask what you are doing. Just keep the PDA with you so it is mostly on the move and you will be fine. Don't go running around but don't drag your feet either.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

why do you have a longer than 40 min break?
How can she threaten you with the conduct code if she hasn't had a fact finding interview to find out the reasons for the pda data. It could be multiple reasons. It's sounds like she is after you. Typical RM management bullshit, not knowing how to motivate and raise the moral of their staff which in turn creates a more productive workplace with less sick leave and complaints. Delivery DOMS/LINOS are only called managers in RM. Everywhere else the linos would be team leaders and doms would be a supervisor on about 50p an hour more than the normal worker/postie. Anytime our batters were off the place ran brilliantly as everyone knew exactly what they were doing. Bin the majority of them and have 1 DOM per unit. There's no linos needed.

Could you please explain to me how sitting in the van, sometimes for over 40 minutes, is efficient?

In that case, yes you can be conduct coded. You should have no more than you're specific break for your duty timespan. You admit you could do more work in your time if you 'only' had your 40 mins, so I'm afraid you don't have a leg to stand on.

How does the PDA figure out how many attendance calls you've made? ie if you're walking along a terrace street in a straight line how can it figure out how many houses you've delivered stuff to??

Since the PDA app was allowed to have 13 months of PDA trend data and to identify where the PDA stops at locations , lots of managers have been doing a deep dive to identify things such as where individuals are stopping for longer than usual and this has thrown up such things as the PDA is in the house of an employee or stopped at a cafe ect.

People need to understand that Royal Mail’s strategy on use of digital technology, real time recording is designed to introduce work standards and that is why they are ant to now use the 13 month trend data to see how long a loop has taken or walk has taken by a rest day cover , duty holder , reserve or on overtime to what is the most efficient way.

Don’t believe that as long as you start on time and work to your time your some how immune to this strategy. You might walk at one mile an hour and work your time but the reserve does it at 3 miles per hour and finishes it early , than that information will be used by managers to increase the work performance of the individual who was waking at one mile per hour.

This is why the CWU is opposed to the use of PDA’s for resourcing or doing revisions and that is what Royal Mail want to use this information to introduce work standards and increase productivity. The PDA trend data will see if overtime is actually needed or if a part timer is needed any extra hours to complete.
