Since they have taken away late mech tray in our office people have been finishing 1-2 hours before their time. I don't know why the managers don't send them back out to help people who claim 1-2 hours protracted delivery.

scoobymunster wrote: Does cut offs get properly reported in most offices though? As long as tracks and SDs aren't part of your cut off, the system can report that the office has cleared. We had a duty fail on the day of a "surprise" audit, management didn't care as long as everything traceable as being in the office went out the door. :arrrghhh
Thats because the auditors tend to come in when people are out on delivery so wont be around to see the cut off mail being returned. So as long as they got it out the door theres nothing to see.
However, the managers are leaving themselves open if they are ever found out to be stating the office is clear and mail has been returned.

A perfect solution that should be adhered to,if only you had the luxury of seeing a manager when you get back,we see him for ten minutes In the morning and then he’s off to his other more preferable office,am still waiting for my conversation with him as I couldn’t complete the other day,I doubt that will happen,20 minutes of my lapsing involves me driving to start my 50 minutes of lapsing, already over time so bought bit back shock horror!,

Also today a full timer refused to work with a part timer because "He takes his break" the part timer was swopped with someone who didn't.
Nosher! Keep taking breaks out and away from the workplace...leave pda turned on in van and walk away alternatively turn it off/remove battery for designated breaktime, when return to work input 8 digits plus walk # for del. and 11 digits plus collod code(on keys) for collections, to log in again. your break is your non work time paid in full and is a contractual agreement between YOU, the individual and RM HR...not the Nosher you are unfortunately saddled with via 'van share'...if they/driver is (usually) a f.t. they will be able to find some work to do I'm sure ;liar ...some f.t staff are properly up 'emselves about 'their' duty and do not regard your welfare as their concern. TAKE YOUR BREAKS AND LET THE PROVERBIAL FLOW BACK UPHILL FOR A CHANGE. i.e. Nowt wrong with 'doing the job properly'.

Maybe because the managers think they are dragging their heels so if they want to be out there that long, let them? Your office must be due a revision if there's a genuine 1 to 2 hour difference between the walks. Have a read of what dingo/Martin Walsh has put on about the PDA usage that royal mail want. It's interesting , here's a snippet

People need to understand that Royal Mail’s strategy on use of digital technology, real time recording is designed to introduce work standards and that is why they are ant to now use the 13 month trend data to see how long a loop has taken or walk has taken by a rest day cover , duty holder , reserve or on overtime to what is the most efficient way.

Don’t believe that as long as you start on time and work to your time your some how immune to this strategy. You might walk at one mile an hour and work your time but the reserve does it at 3 miles per hour and finishes it early , than that information will be used by managers to increase the work performance of the individual who was waking at one mile per hour.

So in the near future these people might be told they shouldn't be taking that long because the PDA actuals say so.
It will be interesting to know if they plan to do the same with "runners" as they get called on here? They finish early so the data gets looked at, but it shows they are doing the loops faster than the data says it should, what happens? Told to slow down or given more work? Or nothing?

the main reason though the difference between the postie doing the duty at 3 miles per hour, and a postie at 1 mile per hour (me) is more than likely that there's a 30-40 year age difference. and in some cases (me again) the 60 year old postie has knee replacements. they can stick their PDA actuals up their hoop.!!

If only the start time was enforced with such an iron first, or meal relief.

Way things are going don't be surprised if Royal Mail finally gets a clocking in and out system, and if you finish your 8-hour shift 2 hours early you will only get paid for 6. (when future contracts are changed to reflect this) that will stop 95% of runners.

My answer would be does Bob the runner start before their time, does Bob the runner prep in 16.6% of the D2Ds, does Bob the runner take out all the 16.6% of said D2Ds, does Bob the runner stick a bag on their shoulder instead of using a LWT/HCT. If the answers are yes, no, no, yes then maybe its Bob the runner you should be talking to for not using correct methods and equipment not me.

If the answers are yes, no, no, yes
Have you ever had those answers?
Are you ever likely to get those answers?

Your pretend conversation with your manager is never going to happen because they're not going to mention Bob the postie, if they ever use the PDA data for individual performance which I doubt is likely they're not going to compare you to anyone, they will compare you to a standard which may or may not be agreed by the union. If you're below that standard or the PDA shows you taking too long to do certain tasks that's the type of conversation you'll be having.

Well of course they are not going to mention Bob the postie, the hardcore who no matter what, absolutely insists on arriving over an hour early so he gets his mail and packets in before anyone else has got out of bed. They will still be one of the first to leave the office, be taking their lapse and maybe even other posties lapse on overtime and still finish well ahead of their time. Will the PDA data ever be used to assess their duties or get them to slow down?? Because just as the business can use the PDAs to show why one individual may be taking too long to do certain tasks, they may also as a business use the PDAs to distribute the workload in ways so that the faster posties finish when they are supposed to be finishing. The faster posties should also be compared to the standard which may or may not be agreed by the union.

We've been told this morning in our WTL that they are our manager is thinking of bringing in set "leaving the office times" so everyone leaves at the same time to deliver the mail and then anyone who comes back early will either do indoor work or go out and help others until it's official finish time.

So what happens if full timers are fully tied up before the set leaving time, will they assist part timers who arrive to frames overflowing with manual mail and packets needing prepped?
