Got my ballot paper on Tuesday, but didn't vote until I heard what my Branch Committee had to say - they are recommending a Yes vote. Went to the meeting yesterday. Our Branch Secretary said that on flexibility they do not think that people will be expected to stay on for 30 minutes after their finishing time, and can refuse to if they are asked. Some of the women didn't think this was likely, as floor managers have been telling them they can be asked to stay on.
His main argument seemed to be that the people urging a no vote are 'pseudo intellectual outsiders who do not work in the industry'. I don't think that the five PEC members and three National Officers who are against the Agreement, or the Branches who have recommended a No vote are pseudo intellectual outsiders.
Outside the meeting there was an exhibition to show us how RM see us working in 2011. Apart from the new uniforms, and the new equipment - electric trikes, scooters, hcts, etc they had a large picture of various RM employees, with audio handsets attached so that you could hear them tell you of the changes in four years time. If you listened to the 'delivery postman' he tells you that although he was not happy with the earlier starts at first, he now likes them as he doesn't have to get up so early now. The 'postwoman' tells us that she gets a bag of mail dropped off to her home, which she can deliver while her kids are at school.
I have now filled in my ballot paper and will put it in the Leicester box today - voting NO.
