I think our local rep has been busy feathering their own little nest in our office (with a little help from the DOM)
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

With the unlevel playing field the way parcels & mail are currently delivered cannot continue indefinitely so one side has to give way. Either we get enforcement of the minimum wage and a level playing field from the EU & UK government or us posties are going to get screwed over. There is a small possibility of moving to a five day operation but I doubt it has been decided yet and it will not be Saturday that goes. If if happens it will be Tuesday that goes along with all the cover duty jobs.mattjo1@talktalk.net wrote:Been told today by DOM Monday to Friday will be brought in within 6 months.

So who’s going to cover sickness/holidays then? Also there will be parcel only duties that we don’t have now.Celgar wrote:If if happens it will be Tuesday that goes along with all the cover duty jobs.mattjo1@talktalk.net wrote:Been told today by DOM Monday to Friday will be brought in within 6 months.

By cover I meant the staff that currently cover for days off from the five day week or the alternate systems that are used. RM would have to keep the staff that cover the AL obviously. There are not duties to cover sickness. The Postman wrote:So who’s going to cover sickness/holidays then? If implemented it would be a lot of jobs gone/costs saved.

They won't cut any day. It is a fantasy to believe that they will. What they almost certainly will do as soon as they feel they can get away with it is to introduce a seven day delivery cycle. At that point it'll be working 5 days over 7 and put out of your mind any notion that some select staff will only work Mon-Fri - that is not how large corporations work.

It's only a very few that have Sunday as a normal working day. Most of the new jobs are for 25/30 hours five days over Monday to Saturday with rolling day off. The only ones that are Sunday working are Sunday only(7hours) for RLE. So they must be due the Sunday enhancement as this is their conditioned hours. Obviously not getting enough volunteers and why would you. I was getting more 20 years ago for a Sunday than I was four years ago. That was when you had Saturday premium and Sunday double time for job and finish in the warehouse of Glasgow MC. Good job then.noggin1969 wrote:Monday to Friday working when the competition is doing seven day till 10pm or later ? Doubt it very much , it's a race to the bottom and with the new starters on contracts saying five day working over seven. They're going to get shafted as the old contractors , leave , retire or get IHR'd.

More collapsing of duties and casuals. Also nobody will want to be going on the sick in the next couple of years when it's down to ssp after six weeks max full pay and that's after 7/8 days waiting period before ANYTHING is paid. Like celgar said it will probably be tues=sat. Maybe give most of the parcels back to parcelforce, using their self employed drivers. Yes the race to the bottom is definitely on.The Postman wrote:So who’s going to cover sickness/holidays then? Another negative norman talking absolute rubbish. Sick pay is going nowhere, parcelforce isn’t going to be taking any work from Royal Mail. If anything it will be the ither way round not the maximum weight has increased to 30kgNavalron wrote:More collapsing of duties and casuals. I'm sure the agreement is 2021 unless the profit margin falls below a certain figure in which case it will be brought forward.wacko74 wrote:Don't think the US0 is up for review until 2021... so no chance until then.

Both RM & the CWU both have a tendency to keep both OPGs and DOMs in the dark as regards the future of the business and our jobs. The DOM will likely not have access to special information and it is just supposition. Moving to a five day operation across the business is an obvious way to cut a big chunk out of the wage bill & RMs emphasis on cost cutting is legendary. This idea has been floating around for years and often resurfaces & may eventually happen. When we don't have a clear picture of what will happen in the future rumours will begin.south London postie wrote:yep, 1 in 4 and that's everyone.
