Does it get better?
One week in and I'm close to tears. Posting stuff is fine, but the constant 'advice' I keep getting has got my brain mashed. No one says the same, keep getting different opinions off people. For example one person says sign in one place, next person says you sign in somewhere else. I'm ok sorting post into racks but I then get 3 or 4 people passing me telling me how to bundle it up - each one giving different instructions, worst still they jump in and start bundling it for me! I know they are being helpful but 3+ different opinions is getting me confused and stressed. Worst still I've been put with someone who has done the job for years but gets super stressed every day. Other than being inpolite and saying get stuffed, how do you deal with all this?

Don't worry about it. Just plod along at your own pace and you will eventually pick up the correct way of doing things. It takes time. RM used to send you to classrooms for a couple of weeks before you got anywhere near a frame of machine. Just chill, everything will come in time to you. As long as your trying you will get kept on. Stop stressing, you won't be as fast as experienced posture but we all started and felt EXACTLY how you feel just now. Some mornings I felt like just going home, never to return, lol. It's still a good job and claim your overtime even if only ten minutes and take your breaks. It's better to take your time and get the correct letters through the correct door than have customers complaining and you up in front of the DOM. Also don't try and rush when you see everyone else leaving before you and your still sorting, speed comes with experience. Join the union if you haven't already and seek out the more helpful posties(you will get to know who's who) and your work coach. Also just ask your link if your not sure. And this is a good form for questions and answers about the job. Just to out and enjoy the job and in about 8/10 weeks you will wonder what all the worrying was about.lisag42 wrote:One week in and I'm close to tears. Thank you for your kind words. I'm ok with posting stuff, emptying boxes and the PDA, got the speed too so I know I can do it. Just paired with someone who is a defeatist, moans right from the start, despite asking she gave me no help bundling it all up - told me to speak to a manager - I did it as advised now she has moaned all the way around saying I've done it wrong. Other guys have been great, but my pair is not a good person to work with. I'm sticking with it as I do love the job it's the 'pair' I'm struggling with.

Trust me eventually you’ll get to switch partners because they move you around like every other week to other walks.
I’ve only been working there recently myself and I’ve worked with 5 people in total and one of them was impatient guy who used to always rush and make mistakes and than get angry.
I don’t work with him anymore and I’m feeling better about the job now and I also got these partner right now who’s a relaxed and chilled guy and it’s making the job better for me so it just one of those who you just have to tolerate for a week or so.

how ironic, you asked for help, she refused, then moans the frame isn't settup right during the round lol
Just stick with it, I was first put with an asshole, i said to the manager move me to keep the peace, took a couple of days before i knew i was being moved, but those 2 days I just thought sod it, aint nobody going to ruin my time, so went my own pace and just stuck two fingers up at the "pair"

Been there a few months and yes it doesn’t get better. You will find your own way and do what works for you and don’t let anyone bully you or make you feel bad. Best advise is go with whatever your work place coach shows you and if you are unsure ask them. The managers are often too busy as are your pairs. If you still feel you are struggling with bundling or procedures then the WPC is the one to go to. Personally I’ve found some right miserable moaning posties haha but I’ve also met a load of great colleagues too, keep your chin up and stick with it and you’ll be moved soon enough.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Feeling much better now despite getting totally drenched as summer appears to have disappeared. I just went at my own pace and enjoyed the bits I did on my own, looking like a total mad woman saying hello to cats
She sort of got it by the time we finished, accepted my route isn’t great and needs addressing, but seemed happy I did some of hers at a good pace. I can see why there is a turnover of staff in some DO, there is a hell of a lot thrown at you right at the start but it’s a good job so I will stick at it.
