do they measure length of job outdoor or do they just look at finish time?
For example sometimes im asked to come in early if they know its busy and i work outdoors from 7;30-1230.
Other days i dont need to come in till 9;00 and finish at 1400. Its still the same length at 5 hrs per shift but done slightly differently.

In our office all the 5 day part timers on walks have been told to start at 9:30 tomorrow?
Also today a full timer refused to work with a part timer because "He takes his break" the part timer was swopped with someone who didn't.

I've known this to happen too, back when I was part time. Quite often, unfortunately, it can be your fellow posties that are more oppressive than management.mattycash wrote:In our office all the 5 day part timers on walks have been told to start at 9:30 tomorrow?

And this is the reality to every thread on here where someone insists 'take your breaks!' or demands 'why aren't you taking your breaks?' If no other f****r is and you, the reserve placed with them that day/week, insist on taking it...well, you are pretty soon labelled and treated as a workplace Pariah.
This is something that needs sorting, somehow, as it's obviously a major issue affecting many posties. Posties who are told and know that they should be taking their breaks before they are lost to us all, but find it easier to not do so due to the 'smash this duty out so we can f**k off home half an hour before finish time' (despite starting an hour early unpaid) culture that has developed over the years amongst many posties.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

Most of the rounds in my office are impossible to finish early and this is without taking breaks. The majority are fed up!

Their main preoccupation is looking to see if posties are finishing early. They are also watching how long the indoor operation part of the job takes to complete especially when we start saying we don't have enough time to complete. They are also obviously looking at times to prep in terms of cost cutting as well.leolion855 wrote:do they measure length of job outdoor or do they just look at finish time?

The main focus of the PDA data at the moment is route optimisation, they are directing their attention towards the balance of loops, the length of time large parcels are taking and the amount of idle time (how large the yellow dots are). This is all inside the scope of existing agreements.
Using the PDA data to drive savings plans based on estimated finish times is not part of any agreement and reps should not be accepting any changes to duties, lapsing plans or resourcing based on PDA "finish time" data.
There are no agreements covering the use of the PDA as a clocking on/off device. That's being trialled separately using a completely different AHDC system.

Hear what you are saying Woody, but as we all know agreements are disregarded at local level on a daily basis............Woody Guthrie wrote:.......

they had us all in a group on the floor telling us that ''big brother'' is watching us. they are on about the 'yellow dot' on your PDA that tells them how long you are stood in one place for. if you are there for more than a minute it gets larger..2 mins larger...3 mins larger etc. they say no action is being taken on past events but now it is mainstream and they ARE watching. they say at a nearby office posties have been sitting in their vans for anything up to an hour, then coming back and booking their bait time on the back of their shift. it is a clear warning. reps told us to do our jobs properly and theres no worry.

As far as I know the AHDC trials failed and it isn't going to be used. I have heard at least three reasons why this happened:Woody Guthrie wrote:The main focus of the PDA data at the moment is route optimisation, they are directing their attention towards the balance of loops, the length of time large parcels are taking and the amount of idle time (how large the yellow dots are). 1.) The CWU stopped it because they disagreed with the automatic element of the system.
2.) The detectors could not differentiate between the posties data in offices when the frames were close to each other.
3.) It revealed the true picture of how long the job actually takes to complete so implementing the AHDC was going to cost too much in increased wage costs which are currently not being paid.

Cutting off is the only answer. If enough people do it they’ll have to make changes, otherwise the mail will just keep piling up. If they keep skipping breaks and delivering it all nothing will change!Interested-seeker wrote:Most of the rounds in my office are impossible to finish early and this is without taking breaks. Does cut offs get properly reported in most offices though? As long as tracks and SDs aren't part of your cut off, the system can report that the office has cleared. We had a duty fail on the day of a "surprise" audit, management didn't care as long as everything traceable as being in the office went out the door.Jpro747 wrote:Cutting off is the only answer.
