A woman has been taken to hospital after the Royal Mail van she was driving ploughed into a set of freshly installed traffic lights.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary attended the call on Deva Link in Chester in the early hours of this morning (Friday, May 24).

A spokesman for the force said: "We attended reports of a road traffic collision at 4.02am this morning.

"Two traffic lights were taken out by a Royal Mail van.

"The local authority has been made aware."

Luckily there were no major injuries, but the 47-year-old driver attended hospital as a precaution after the crash.

The set of lights were installed recently as part of the creation of a new Aldi on Parkgate Road, which is set to open mid-June .

A number of traffic troubles have plagued motorists since construction began, with residents complaining after Aldi contractors closed the road without notice - restricting access for emergency service vehicles without notifying the council.

It’s a nasty junction, cannot believe the planners let it go through. Been countless complaints about the layout, and that’s before the store actually opens. It’s lucky the incident happened in the early hours as it’s very busy around there so it could have been a lot worse.

The new ALDI site is opposite the Esso Garage on here. Think it was a big car show room at one time. Still shows as empty land on street view.
