WTLL Managers brief : Thinking about our future
Just look at the script that's intended for our managers to read, inwardly digest and then present to us in their own words, how out of touch can the people who've prepared and sent these briefings be,somehow they're under the impression that quite rightly so taking into account the money they get paid that a delivery manager is a competent professional,If only they knew the truth !
To be frank from day one, 20 years ago I was and still am really disappointed in the fact that one of RM's weakest links is the lazy, incompetent, bullying, not all thick but nasty with it bastards that they put in positions of authority at the front line of their business !

I don't know if we have had this briefing today at our DO as I am on AL this week.
This briefing may have been amended due to the profit warning, which has already been leaked, but I believe this is still part two of the three part 'future' WTLL briefing primarily connected with shifting all large parcels to the LAT hubs and 8000 redundancies or lay-offs. We had part one of this briefing set a few weeks ago in our DO. But for dingo we wouldn't know about this as both RM and the CWU are keeping fairly quiet on the subject. The CWU have broken ranks a little on it and have said if RM push it forward they will immediately ballot for national strike action.
This briefing is a little odd in that RM will do what they want to do with the business so what is the point in asking us for suggestions.

I suspect they have no interest in our suggestions. This looks like an exercise in preparing us for some of the likely changes coming our way by peddling some of these points within the WTL discussion document in an attempt to soften the blow when it all comes out.Celgar wrote:This briefing is a little odd in that RM will do what they want to do with the business so what is the point in asking us for suggestions.
I liked the line towards the end of page 2 "Thank you for your participation today. We might have some potential future leaders in the room!"

Yeah, so when they try to implement stupid ideas in the future and it goes tits up, they can just say "well it was you're idea". Must think we're all zipped up the back.itinerant wrote:I suspect they have no interest in our suggestions. I've got an idea, how about getting some agreement with the union about a five year plan, which clearly has not happened, and they are ploughing on to implement quick fix changes they want to satisfy the shareholders. I am anticipating tomorrow's announcement, but I'm sure they need to work with the workforce, stop dictating without agreement. Industrial action is looming ever closer.

Why even mention Amazon having a 5am cut off? That's possible for them because the items are ordered on their website and despatched from their wharehouses. Unless we are going to start selling stuff and storing it in our delivery offices in case someone orders it how is it relevant?

WTLL Managers brief : Thinking about our future
We had a 4 page welcome letter from our new Dom on how we was all going to have to get back to basics
, although I do agree half our office look like f***ing scarecrows the scruffy twats.
As for this management WTLL bollocks most firms revert to this type of shite to pick the brains of lesser mortals and then claim it was their idea anyway, that's why I never say a thing on the very rare occasion we have an actual WTL as really they just want you do their jobs for them.

Discussion section 1.)
Regarding the suggestions in the prompt I have no knowledge of tugs & conveyors but there are issues and/or problems with ALL the other subjects. It is notable that they haven't listed the unfair competition regime, DSA, absorption, lapsing, flexing, GDPR, & other courier companies abusing the self employment system and paying workers well below the minimum wage which are all serious problems in/for RM.
Discussion section 2.)
One hour delivery window - Would be problematic if not impossible for us to achieve.
Sunday deliveries - Don't see a need for this nor would posties want to do it.
Evening deliveries - Linked to moving large parcels to LAT hubs. I don't foresee this being possible to implement as time saved from large parcels removal does not equate to an extra hours worth of delivery points.
Van delivery for larger parcels - We and Parcelforce already do this.
Doorstep collections - I agree we could do this in terms of catalogue returns etc depending on size of items.
In flight redirections - No problem with how we currently do redirections. There was something like this connected to the delivery method trials and as predicted they failed miserably.
Buying postage from mobiles - Not sure how this would work. Customers can already print their own postage via the Internet using computers & printers.
Discussion sections 3&4:
Top three things to change/introduce/do:
1) Attempt to remedy the problems emanating from both the EU & the UK government. These issues will not be easy to fix but the RM has to play its part. These include the unfair competition regime, DSA, GDPR, and other courier companies abusing the self employment system and paying their workers below the minimum wage.
2) Get rid of absorption, lapsing, and flexing by designing walks better so they match duty hours.
3) Part time duties often do not work as there isn't enough duty time to complete the job or other posties don't have time to complete the prep. Therefore look to fix this by reverting duties to full time duties where possible, practical, or desirable.

I've had stuff delivered on a Sunday, given the choice I'd have stuff delivered on a Sunday even if it meant having to pay £2 more.Celgar wrote:Sunday deliveries - Don't see a need for this nor would posties want to do it.
Can't see why it can't be done for packets or at least Tracked upto the point it reaches the DO provided the new address is covered by the same DOCelgar wrote:In flight redirections - No problem with how we currently do redirections.
