Postman smells danger after fire breaks out in New Parks bungalow

Firefighters were called out to a cul-de-sac on a city estate after a passing postman raised the alarm.

The postal worker dialled 999 when he saw smoke coming from a property in Hodgson Close, New Parks, this morning.

Crews from the city's Western and Central fire stations answered the call.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We received an emergency call from a postal worker after he saw smoke issuing from a property in Hodgson Close, Leicester.

"On arrival, crews confirmed that this was a block of three bungalows involved in fire.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing gear entered the premises and used one hose reel jet to tackle the blaze."

No-one was injured in the incident, which the fire service said was "believed to have been started by accident". No more details on the cause were provided.

The spokeswoman added: "The fire was extinguished and all persons have been accounted for. The property was allowed to ventilate naturally.

"A 2m sq area on the outside of the building was damaged by fire, with smoke damage to the inside of the bungalows."
