Well if I was you I would make it difficult for them before you go out inform them of the over running procedure and have witness's and tell the said manager to get his walking boots on because he/she will need them if any of these shenanigans keep occurring they can do what you bring back!

Lately this process has been tightened even more on by management, making it extremely difficult to actually get a round reduced in size for example. They do not recognise that some duties have actually had an increase in traffic, or that more parcels means far more time than the decline in mail. Unless offices stick together and ALL work to their time they pick off individuals who do (whilst others do not) and bully and harass them on a daily basis until they buckle. The whole process of being able to work to your time, in some offices, has become an exercise in bullying. harassing and frustration for the staff member. The union must get some kind of alternative agreement to the Annex 1 Conduct Code (overrunning delivery), it is not fit for purpose as it needs a very thick skinned, stubborn, special person to put up with and win an argument on delivery workload. There are not many of them in our office.

Totally agree with what you're saying there Celgar. The other week I went into the DOMs office to book 20 mins OT on a Tuesday. "No one else has booked any overtime" he said. "So what exactly does that mean? Are we racing each other now"? I asked. :hmmmm

I then pointed out that: 1) I prep my Households in the morning before throwing off my mail. NOT on Saturday when I've finished... in my own time.... just because " I like to have them all done ready to go on Monday" :arrrghhh 2) We'd had 30 mins WTLL (for which you are budgetted) 3) Because Tuesday is the lightest day I've carried out the longer Weekly Vehicle check, and I filled up my van on the way back to the office.

"Well we haven't had the mail to justify paying any overtime" So I told him I'd be willing to claim it back the following day... and we all know Wednesdays are never busy don't we? He's a new DOM so he's obviously trying out all those tried & tested bullshit excuses. :no no Why is always the same, with Posties having to prove to DOMs that they're not going to be taken the piss out of? :cuppa

It's amazing how RM and CWU tell us that we don't have a set daily workload, yet when we try and book overtime its "you have xxxx amount of mail it will take xxxx amount of time to deliver it". blah blah blah.

You are spot on and it is becoming too easy for managers to get away with it. Bullying is the norm in RM now and it’s actually seen as acceptable form of ‘management’ by the higher grades of managers which is a disgrace. They simply don’t care because they know it works and challenging it would mean having to do some actual work.

Plus paying OT is in its self a cost to the business and thus will impact the budget which will affect management bonuses so they have a vested interest in turning a blind eye to all these actions by said managers or bullies for want of a better term!

Managers must be felling it from the top last week managers told us that you will have to explain each day why you are booking over time and also some people will be prep tested.

Everything is currently being monitored and if a DOM thinks, for example, that you taking longer to do the prep than the time stated on the 318, then they will raise it with you. I do my best every day and I am not in any way interested in making the job take any longer to complete than it has to.

If you asked me where the 318 is I would have to look for it but they are about somewhere. I was asked to sign on my walk log the other day to say the H&S and hazard information was correct so maybe it is in there. Failing that our DOM must have access to it. A little while ago when we came under attack from the finance director, who wanted forty hours out of the office, we all reverted to doing the job precisely as RM says. We then had sheets down to the minute showing how the job is meant to be completed daily so the 318 definitely exists.

“what is this overtime you speak of”?we are not permitted to engage in any such talk of such stuff of which dreams and a considerate caring management would have you think!
