read the original thread. the part time worker does not have time to prep D2D's. They should have been done for him, if he cannot do them in his time and no manager has offered a solution, then like I said they should leave the D2D's as they are not his problem.

The other way of looking at it is that the Part timer does not have time to complete all expected tasks (including D2D), it's managements job to sort out that conundrum, not the OPG. If the posties decide on their own initiative not to do the D2Ds then they could indeed be his problem.

Is that fair, no, but that's the way its setup at the moment. The agreement on overrunning deliveries says that the advice managers give in this circumstance should be written down, why don't OPGs start using that, they'll have a record of what decision was made and what instructions were given.

read the original thread. the part time worker does not have time to prep D2D's.
If he came in to a completely empty frame which mail stream would he not have time to prep and why?

We don't get to choose what we have time to do, all mail including D2D is considered to be of equal importance with regards to the conduct code.

The part-time worker might not have time to complete his delivery once he has prepped all his mail. That's the point where we get to make a choice, whether we work over or not.

That's how it works whether you're full-time or part-time.

Your advice was not only wrong it was recklessly dangerous. This is someone's job you're messing about with

OK, so you're saying it actually was my responsibility? I wonder why the manager never told me so, instead of trying to get others to do it? I think a part of it is that this walk is the furthest one from the DO, and cutting off means up to a half hour drive to the DO each way, depending on traffic. So I guess the manager knows that it's more hassle to find someone to go out and do the overtime instead of trying to get someone else to do the D2D's.

I will bear your post in mind in the future though, thank you.

He tried to get others to do it because he knew that if you had to do it that would either mean you working past your time and costing him overtime or you telling him you won't have time to complete all of your delivery and him paying someone else overtime to do it.

That's the only power we have, the ability to make them pay for their mistakes.

Wrong. There are 2 elements to the job on delivery. Indoor and outdoor.

D2d's, as far as prepping goes is an indoor task. If they are not prepped prior to part timer starting, then he or she must complete that task and if that is going to cause an issue with regard the amount of time left in day to complete the outdoor element, then they must communicate this to a manager to either gain authorisation for overtime or get an instruction as to what to do to manage the workload to make it acheivable to finish on time!

End of story!

I can normally wangle five minutes to sit and have a vape before we go out while whoever I'm with goes to the loo/finishes loading their frame onto the van. Other than that, I have never had a break during delivery since I started working at RM and if I suggested it I don't think it would go down well. Either they'd rather finish early (and tbh so would I) or the walk is too long and barely possible to get done on time even without a break.
So you are gifting Royal Mail 25 minutes per day free labour.

That equates to around 100 hours every year you are gifting to Royal Mail.

£1200~ per year out of your pocket potentially. For sitting on your arse!

Take your break!

like I said before, if the manager has offered no solution and the part timer does not have time to prep them. what else can he do other than leave them? the subject of this thread is about D2D's so I am keeping to that. I have seen it with my own eyes that D2D's are treated far less important when it comes to getting the workload out for the day in regard to part time workers who do not want to work beyond there contracted hours.

He preps them .
Once he has finished the indoor work he assesses how much of the duty he can complete within his contracted hours,
He then approaches the manager and asks for guidance.

You finish your indoor work. Then you use the Over running delivery procedure.
It isn't rocket engineering.

Beg to differ.
If someone else hasn't done their job, he should inform the manager so he can manage, before he decides to do someone elses work for them.

He shouldn't decide to leave them, nor should he decide to prep them.

He needs to inform the manager who will 'manage'.

The manager can't just offer no solution. He needs to advise one way or another.

Hi Bardeh. I think the point you need to take from all this helpful advice is...... The ONLY thing you really have control over in this job is the fact that you cannot be forced to work over your contractual finish time.

You obviously need to discuss this problem with your DOM, and your CWU Unit Rep. Once they're aware of the situation (and that'll depend on how interested either of them are) I personally would simply throw off a sixth of the Households (some DOs have a planogram showing which colums should be thrown off on which days). Prep your Mech, IPS Mail & Packets in the usual way. Then make a "Guesstimate" about how much you can reasonably expect to deliver before your Contracted Finish Time.

Note: That's when you're due to walk out of the Office so include travelling time, and sorting stuff out like handing in 739d packets. Also don't forget your Meal Relief! IF you haven't taken any out on Delivery (which you should really try to do) then book it! :thumbup

I realise it's difficult if you're moving around different duties but you'll have a better idea the more times you do the duty. Make notes on each walk including time out .....where you are at say every hour.... time back into the Office, just to help yourself. You can then tell the DOM that you won't be able to complete the whole duty in time. Ask him What does he want to do about it? Too many Posties start gobbing off about they're gonna do this .... They're not gonna do that

It's up to your DOM to sort the problem out. He may ask you if you want the OT. :hmmmm He'll probably say "Take it all and see how you go". :no no Or he may simply say, "Leave the top row and I'll get someone else who wants the overtime to deliver it"! :dance I would prefer the last option..... less stress for you and it more importantly makes him aware that that duty is too big for you to prep & deliver within time. Good luck. :cuppa
