There should be a method of stopping people starting early. PDA actuals can see if you are taking breaks on delivery, so that's no problem. If you are accused of being slow, then get them to prove it with the PDA, easy. Everyone should start on time, work at a decent speed, use trolley, don't carry bags on your shoulders, don't walk across people's lawns, don't leave parcels in secure here there and everywhere , basically, do the job right.
If you're doing all this AND getting back early, then you should have more work to do, indoor or out. Simple.

The simple question is WHY? Why can’t the technology record a simple action like a start time and finish time?osgoody1970 wrote:did none of you listen to martin??? people coming in early. not taking their breaks, not using the correct methods, ie using trolleys, the PDA'S will not capture this!!! and they will use it as a stick to beat you with!!! what they will use, is postman A can finish in this time, postman B is 45mins later...conduct??? most of you will know, if they is a right way and a wrong way to capture data, royal mail will chose the cheaper option, no matter what!!!
That is much better than currently. The break question and methods are more difficult to police but once the PDA actuals of finishing times become clear WHY would posties NOT take breaks etc?? when the prospect of getting home to watch Loose Women on the tele is a distant memory. RM want everyone to work all paid hours, simple! like millions of others do.
Surely the union could insist on THEIR data requirements, it should not be a one way street at RMs whim.
Do not forget the current system is not good, generally speaking in the interest of ALL posties, far from it.
Start on time, go home at finishing time, like most other workers nationwide! RM have to address the in between bit, the CWU need to protect its members from any intimidation derived from its members only doing a job of work. That is going to work, sorting mail, going out on the street to deliver that mail through a letter box and parcels to whoever is prepared to accept them for a customer and at xyz time go home and enjoy a stress free existence.

in our office the fulltimers that come in at the proper start time are put on the IPS and the early starting runners don't do IPS ,DOM gets them to prep the walks for lapsing, PT rounds and absences. Which mean by coming in early you can get up to date and prep the other rounds and are up to date to start redi's whilst the fulltimeson IPS haven't even cleared down and are 45 mins behind to start with . Add onto that runners not taking breaks and cutting corners they are finishing over an hour quicker than the Posties doing the round properly. Plus the DOM is happy that the O/T gets covered and the docket kings can ghost the O/T and DOM can go home early

Its ok working the hours you get paid, but not having to do an impossible workload,RM only see what they want to see,and until they realise everyone works at different speeds and not punish the slower posties and praise the runners this job will always be unfair.

hero22 wrote:Sick of this same crap all the time. How hard is it for people to understand that you have a start time and a finish time and in between you have a break time. The amount of people in my office that show complete disregard to warnings from the union about starting early, not taking the meal relief and going round the duty like their training for the Olympics is unreal. The new starts are the worse for it, even though they have been in long enough to be up to speed they are in trying to impress management 20/25 minutes before their shift starts. I realise the pda wont show this but its about time something was done about the posties who are bringing those of us who do the job properly down by undercutting us by starting early etc. sickens me.
Totally agree mate..about time people listened up, instead of running round like a demented XXXX

What if RM only paid for the “ACTUAL” time worked? Yeh, stirring the hornets nest here!
Winners, without any of the current OT claim hassle and some losers with no reason for complaint. Unlike other jobs that can be evenly tasked, - piece work, like produce xyz items - mail delivery has too many daily anomalies and time variations to adhere too rigid reliable time targets, the different OPGs ” times out “ off office column recordings simply proves that, far less a universally achievable and uniform time back possibility - ever! It can never happen.
The better, more efficient, more competent faster posties argument has no reward with only paid hours and with no applicable personal and fair bonus system available to everyone that standard cannot be applied.
It’s a Royal Mail management problem to MANAGE performance issues and are a separate issue for the CWU to address.
People working past time paid automatically by the clock system, many other workers do work a flexi system after all.
In other jobs people not completing their paid hours can get their time “cut” and paid accordingly,.....only saying like.
Posties are not salaried. There are too many current loopholes and some overall “fairness” needs established, somehow!!!
Utilise spare duty time by prepping D2D work and cleaning out the vans , the state of some of them is blatantly apparent!

I think you'll find working the hours you're paid for is the norm in virtually every business in the country

There is. It's called a manager getting up off their backsides and walking around the D.O. sending people to the canteen if they are found prepping before time. Second time a warning, third time conduct. The problem is a vast majority of managers are lazy, walks are uneven and have been for the last 20 years I know of, managers have favourites and let them get away with blue murder. This is the only company I've ever worked for were people get rewarded for breaking the rules, cutting corners and paid for not working unless of course you're on a monster walk and then they throw every rule at you to bully you into doing more than you should.rambo1 wrote:There should be a method of stopping people starting early.
One place I worked at you clocked in, then clocked out at breaktime, clocked back in after break, back out at lunchtime and so on. Everyone took a break and if you didn't the system flagged it up and you were asked why. Not royal fail no we still use pen and paper that's easy to fiddle.rambo1 wrote:PDA actuals can see if you are taking breaks on delivery, so that's no problem.
