Just weigh up the probabilities and make a decision. I don’t tend to get these wrong, and my customers appreciate it greatly.

If you want to avoid disciplinary action within Royal Mail, just become a MANAGER, then you can break every rule in the book , this is the bright new future in the business i think , sorry to say .

thats what everyone thinks til it goes wrong, nevermind its up to you as you say, hope you dont get caught for one reason or another as itll be a heavy price to pay, dont think your customers will pay your mortgage.Natagora wrote:Just weigh up the probabilities and make a decision. With all due respect guys, I’ve had this conversation on here before and I’m happy to continue trusting my own judgement. Enjoy your evening.

There was a story in the courier about two posties getting applauded for helping an elderly chap who fell in the street. Anyone else see this ? It says one had first aid experience and helped him get up and get home only for him to later die in the house. I haven't had first aid training but would have assumed it would have been wiser to phone an ambulance at the scene rather than move him. Thought it was strange story to highlight.

Yes! I read it and thought that if I did that I'd probably have the police, the old guy's family and RM all accusing me of causing his death or something.hero22 wrote:There was a story in the courier about two posties getting applauded for helping an elderly chap who fell in the street. The posties in question get a full page spread in the Courier, and fair play, but with my luck I'd be in Court Two, public enemy number one, sacked and sued to hell and back
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

Doesn't really make much sense to me....
Sacking for leaving post on view in a locked van?....
Yet it's fine for us to leave post in so called 'safe places'.
That locked van is a safer place than leaving parcels in a porch.

Only when the mail is locked in the back of the van. Someone could break the window and steal any mail in the frontnorris9 wrote:That locked van is a safer place than leaving parcels in a porch.

We all know what most of us do to get the job done. But if the post office police do happen to spot your van with a load of mail on the passenger seat you will be in deep ****. You will get a chance to defend or apologise for your actions and if you are a union member the area rep will likely stand as your defence while being questioned. This may or may not get you off and worst case scenario will see you out of the job.joewyan wrote:Just because posties do them it doesn’t mean it’s not a sackable offence! If you want to risk your job doing one of them that’s up to you. I’ll stick to the rules thanks.Sledge4211 wrote:None of those are sackable offences mate lol nearly 90% of posties do these things...

What’s the need to mention the Union? You would have the same opportunity to defend yourself if not in the union as long as you have a brain!Celgar wrote:We all know what most of us do to get the job done. Surely the best thing is to follow the rules? I agree it would be quicker to do a rural job/firms job with a tray in the front but it’s not worth losing my job to save a few minutes.
