A form was circulated around our office a couple of years ago which allowed the customer to give permission for the postal person to sig, post or leave in safe secure place. If I sig on behalf of the customer I always sig my own name, not fraud. As was mentioned in a previous post all will be ok until something goes wrong or missing then it will be a**s covering time.
The customer is always the person sending the item, not the person receiving the item
Aye. As far as RM is concerned the person receiving the item is the 'recipient' and the person posting the item is the 'customer'. Postie's usually refer to the person receiving the item as the 'customer' or 'our customer/s' hence any confusion.

Always assume that you are being watched when you write or upload stuff to social media. Regarding having mail on the passenger seat this is indeed a sackable offence unless it is in one of the special small mail pouches that I have never seen. Don't leave the box keys or PDA or fuel card in view either if the van is unattended. The post office police come round fairly rarely but they do not announce any visits like the audit people or H&S guy. Once they see something they don't like your DO will be on watch for ages which can be a real pain.

If a 'recipient' asks you to do something it is on your head if something goes wrong. Make sure they know to NOT phone up the DO to say thank you or do social media posts on faceache or the like. A lot of people like to put their whole lives on faceache which could easily get you the sack.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Do this all the time, both Recorded and Special. It’s called looking after your customers, after you’ve gained a bit of trust from them. Probably posted at least a thousand in this manner, over the past eighteen months.

Clearly the courier doesn't screen these things. Maybe I should just upload a scenic pic of our office with a few empty trays scattered about in the yard or the odd York blocking the fire exit for good measure :whistle
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

also in alot of the posters such as 'everyone loves door to doors' and often on RMTV you will see posties walking in the road with no hi-viz which is something our office is quite strict about

Just because posties do them it doesn’t mean it’s not a sackable offence! If you want to risk your job doing one of them that’s up to you. I’ll stick to the rules thanks.

If you are not currently an office 'favourite' (and these things change by the day on how much you wish to leave in or go over)this is a perfect opportunity for a lino to throw the book at you and get rid of what they will see as dead wood. Don't give them that opportunity.

I covered a duty for a few weeks once and the regular duty holder did exactly as you do.
I however, didn't.
Customers phoned up to complain that I didn't just sign for items/leave at back door/in bin etc etc.
He got in quite a bit of bother when he returned from holiday.

The "Customer" being the sender of the item, and not the recipient?

We had a bloke sacked for signing for a SD. He had almost 40 years of service in.
