If you could get every household to get a nice large letterbox that doesn't cut Postie's fingers off when it closes + every household to clearly display their house number or name + get those households with long driveways to put a post box closer to the street, then I wonder how much time/money would be saved.

Owner drivers , would save Royal mail the most. All parcels shoesize plus going to owner drivers, then us having to do more roads has we got less parcels and we will keep hearing letters are getting less so even more roads added,

One I’ve heard lately is this Rico guy doesn’t think vanshare is cost effective anymore, what that means I don’t know?? Bikes again? E-trikes on the horizon, hcts and bikes mixed dependant on distance from office? It’s funny that it’s been tabled to our union that we are going to make parcel duties up for the size3 and 4 parcels and absorb more Walking it’s like going back to one of the old methods....any thoughts anyone more in the know shed any light??
That’s funny...in our office there is talk about combining the trolley duties into van share duties, so the total opposite of your rumour.

What about doing away with first class and second class letters. Bring in a new standard delivery within 2 days and if you want next day delivery you use SD. Before anyone says that it cannot happen due to the way the MCs are set up for inward/outward work all they need to do is change the processing. There's only 10pence difference now between first class and second class. They have been brining the cost of them closer together over the last several years. Remember when we all said that one delivery per day will never happen and that the union wouldn't allow you to work extra for free (lapsing). Well that's been going for years now. Also I can see the USO going down to every other day and companies paying a bit extra for daily delivery, just like they do for early delivery now. I hope not as you could be looking at half the jobs going. Also there is going to be a lot of smaller DOs shutting and merging with bigger ones, which is happening. Yes the job is f....d but it couldn't stay in the 1970s says of working, which is a shame for the postie on the street as it was a cracking job.

How will managers and the business hit targets with all the work combined and near on 70p per letter but the every other day will come in before that but as you say the job certainly has changed for but for the better?

on my office the rounds are not getting any smaller, people (idiots) are just coming in earlier to try and get done on time. They hate to cut off and feel stressed about having another hour off.

The thing I really don't get about the staff that start early and work through their break to complete their duty... why not just work extended and book the OT ???

The shorter working week was never meant to lead to shorter rounds, it was to mitigate the impact of man hours lost due to automation.

because they need to finish on time and cant be arsed to have a dust up with management about cutting off, therefore its easier to come in earlier unpaid to make sure you complete and go home on time. Its got nothing to do with being unintelligent.
