I can't think of anything that dingo has written before not being true so the plan he outlined to move class 3 & 4 parcels to the LATs is at the very least being explored. They will love the potential job losses like a dog rolling in fox poo!! I won't be surprised if this ldea dies like the delivery method trials which were also a crazy idea. As someone else mentioned I think we just have to wait with baited breath til this 'capitals day' announcement which will happen before the end of May. It sounds like the additional summer absorption is going to start a month earlier this year so we will be doing that in June as well. All we can really count on is that RM will look to making the job more unenjoyable and depressing.

I think Van share was a big mistake from the very start how can it be cost effective having a fleet of vans with most of them doing about 10 miles a day they are not even getting properly warmed up stopping and starting all the time, not to mention the fuel costs, Diesel powered too, utter Madness

Not a chance in hell of that happening. The work doesn't arrive in MCs early enough. If anything many in deliveries will end up being 09:00-17:00 or even 10:00-18:00
I can see 2 deliveries but not as we know it maybe have collections working until 10pm doing evening deliveries. As for working 9-5 or 10-6 we still have issues Posties completing. Also collections have lost alot of work re boxes and they have capacity now and that would gurantee full time jobs. Re 2 deliveries if we went back we would still be working to our time But it would take pressure off the MCs as the vast majority are failing everyday. The 2nd delivery would help them. Also there is the welfare issue for Posties re meal and toilet breaks. I do remember that there was talk that they wanted 6hr delivery spans in the future.

It wouldn't help smaller MCs who don't have the room for a full inward setup (or the staff) at the same time as processing the 2C

It could happen if we were a day behind with the mail.
Let's do away with the annoying 1st class targets and concentrate on the important thing - finishing early.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

What was happening before van-sharing?.... I assume each postie had a van of their own?

What is not cost effective about a van-share? I can't think what would be more cost effective.... getting Posties to do their rounds in their own cars?

Before van share, the vast majority of walks were done by bike with only rurals and business walks done by van. Oversize (shoebox and above) were taken out by dedicated packet duties in a van. On light mail days, you didn't have the dead walking as you had a bike. In an office of 100 duties there would have been about 20 vans. How much do 40 vans cost to keep on the road? If you were a little steady you weren't slowing down the young new keen ones to your pace.
That's how it's less efficient now.

The problem they will face with doing away with shared vans is that many offices are due to merge soon so it will become nearly impossible to return to 'the old ways' in many parts of the country.
