Hiya,
Newbie here. Sent to work to a different DO, about 4 miles from usual place of work, for a week last week.
Does anyone know the 'rules' or policies for this - in terms of start times, travel time, etc.?
Someone said that I should present myself to my normal place of work at my contracted start time, then travel to the designated other location, and then be back for my designated finish time (unless I want to go over...).
Any info/experience on this would be grand.
My manager has told me my travel costs would be reimbursed.
But what about the 60 mins travel time (20 mins there & 40 return) it took me to get to and from this other office every day, totally unpaid, on my own time!
cheers yall :)

Sent to work at a different DO
I've done a lot of this. Oftentimes I get a text on my phone early in the morning from one of the line managers advising me that I'm needed at another office and I could go straight there instead of checking in at my usual delivery office. I take public transport. When I get to the other office I sign in there. Other times there won't be a text, but when I arrive to work in my usual delivery office I'm advised that I'm on my way to another office due to a last minute change of plans. That's when I take a van, or if there are none available that morning I get a ride with an office admin or manager in their car and then take public transport home. Always keep the travel ticket, make a copy of it for personal records and hand in the original.dansmave wrote:Hiya,

At the end of the day I sign out and go straight home. Everything's fine. My line manager says there's no need to return to my own delivery office when I arrive back; as long as I've signed out at the temporary office I traveled to that day.
As far as the travel time, you should be reimbursed for this. My own line manager wants me to text them when I arrive back from the travel. They mentioned that I'm paid up until the travel home is complete, which is fair because traveling to work at another office that a postie is not contracted to must be covered by Royal Mail.
So yes, traveling costs and travel time should be reimbursed. And you probably already know that the reimbursements are paid directly to your bank account separately from your usual pay. There is no separate payslip (although Royal Mail might hand you a Travel Expense Statement like the couple I've received so far; handy for record keeping).
