Doing the Job properly! No cars, no early starts, no overtime. This strategy would bring many offices to a standstill and cause chaos throughout RM. If it is a no vote then there should be a concerted effort to get full time officials going out to reinforce the idea.
AGREED, THIS WILL WORK...WITHOUT THE LOSS OF MONEY THRU' STRIKING :Applause :Applause :Applause

There is absolutely no reason why the result of the ballot should not be known within 24 hours of the closure date !
You can bet your life if it is the 'YES' that both sides are recommending, the result will be shouted from the rooftops immediately.

Lovejoy's strategy is the best option. I suggested a similar plan to a colleague and he cried 'but that's blackmail!!!'.
But the ugly truth is that if the threat of a strike at Christmas doesn't shift Royal Mail's position, there is no other time of year when we have a more powerful negotiating tool. Why do you think RM moved the (theoretical) pay settlement date to April a few years back, when it used to be October every year ?? Because they know if negotiations get bogged down, the CWU saying they will ballot the membership for I/A in the quiet summer months is about as threatening as being confronted by Julian Clary armed with a feather duster. Negotiations stalled in late October / early November give the CWU a much better hand, so they suckered the union into moving the traditional pay settlement date :d'oh!

If we give notice to RM on say 29th November of proposed strike action on 21st/24th December, the CWU can argue they are giving RM three weeks to come up with an acceptable revised offer. The question is: what do the 'NO' camp want changed, to persuade them to vote Yes ?

We must be realistic. RM are not going to suddenly drop all the unpalatable parts of the deal. But in my opinion, the very least we should accept - in terms of pay - is that whatever percentage is agreed, it MUST flow through to ALL elements of pay, including SA (which the current offer doesn't). In my office, there are some for whom SA makes up almost a third of their earnings. So the "5.4%" increase not flowing through to SA means they are only going to get 3.6% extra, in terms of their take-home pay. What we should be arguing for, is the abondonment of this ColleagueShare crap, and those monies being put into a proper pay increase, in line with inflation and applied to every element of pay.

re no vote & future action

Post by steviemac »

the power of work to rule has worked a treat and has lightened my mail bag no end. From being upto date and york free for last 6yrs we have gone to constant 4-5 yorks being carried over and management dishing out SA to keep on top of situation, f*****g brilliant, applying pressure and getting a bit extra and the yorks still keep growing!! With a situation like this and the control we have over the situation i say if it's broke don't fix it.

Geordie wrote:The ballot result is on 27th November - the national leadership should call a National Briefing for 28th or 29th November.

In this way if it's a yes vote, HQ can give their views on how (and which parts) of the agreement can be implemented across the board. eg Area wide agreements on working in other offices.

If it's a no vote, the brieifng can be used to find out WHY Branches recommended rejection. Then they can go in and re-negotiate, and report back to the EC.

And that would leave time for industrial action before Christmas...
like your thinking geordie but we r talking about leadership who accept pension change,s , pay deal and took 10 day,s 2 ratify deal.

If it is a no vote here's what we should send the PEC back in on non-negotiable terms:

a) Total Uniformity amongst other offices. That means everyone take their meal relief. No Cars.Than agree nationally Delivery Best Practice.

b) Phase in Flexibility after the above.

c) Every Callers Office open untill 6pm,(include this action with Indoor Workload Tool)

d) Increase runarounds to match whatever walks Geo-route spits out,(savings will be made no doubt on the walks)

e) Introduce "rotates".That means firms rotates with runarounds and walks/runarounds with firms etc.The flexibility will work with this.
This means that if your opposite rotate is off sick/holiday than your other rotate picks it up AS A DUTY

f) Certain walks tell Geo-Route to build in box collections/your twelve o'clock collections will then,(instead of a collection )
pick up some of a walk as a duty=meal relief=2.45 collection=6 o'clock collection

g) No line manager to leave premises untill the last OPG is back in

h) Public enquiry via commons select commitee into pensions deficit. Not a consultations excersise.

i) Some of your 12 o'clock collections could sort the local mail and deliver the local mail ON THE SAME DAY
IT WAS POSTED,THAN DELIVER!
Remember that job and finish will only be laid to rest once management accept it.They are only
under pressure beacuase thay too have to work their time.Once they are able to say,"i,ll wait here all
day if needs be" than will changes happen
