Royal Mail to provide delivery time notifications day before

Royal Mail is to offer customers notifications the day before their parcel is due with an estimated time, enabling recipients to plan around their delivery.

The earlier notifications will also contain narrower delivery windows starting at two hours.

If recipients are not at home, the parcel can be left with a neighbour or in the safe place the customer requested when they placed the order.

Any Tracked parcels which do not have a safe place or designated neighbour stated will receive an electronic notification of when the item is ready for collection at Customer Service Point so that they do not need to go home to collect their “Something for You” card

“Notifying customers of their expected delivery time the day before we deliver is just one of the ways we are helping to make our customers’ lives easier,” said Royal Mail. “Coupled with a shorter estimated delivery time of as little as two hours creates a step change in convenience for online shoppers. Our posting customers also benefit from increased repeat orders from happy online shoppers. This latest innovation is part of our major investment in changes that increase convenience for our customers and their recipients.”

Lol wonder if this will stop the runner and maybe the managers will enforce tea breaks now.

Guys out the office 1 hour early before there start times.

how does this effect the 'cut off to your specials' rule?, sorry we're late with your parcel but someone who paid us more money is more important to us youll have to wait soz.

i wouldn't worry, i got a tracked parcel for myself a few weeks ago it said expected delivery time between 9:12 and 13:38 doesn't exactly help.

Good point , it’s fine for couriers like dpd etc. That don’t have to deliver letters along with six lots of d2ds and also have to whizz around getting 1pm specials done .

Yesterday ( my day off ) the 2 walks were not completed and heavyish day today meant we knew we would not be able to complete so did the 'second' walk first as half of that had been cut-off. One customer at about 10:50 said he wasn't expecting his parcel until betwenn 11:30 and 2. Seems this already in operation and is based on the 'perfect walk' ... there may trouble ahead

How do they know which way I do my walk? I don't do it to the frame that is for sure and on a Saturday I do it differently ,so unless they are going to start telling me to do it to the frame,which is logistically ridiculous then I will do it as I please ,not as they want.

a lady asked me yesterday where her parcel was as she had a message saying royal mail would deliver it between 8.30 -10.30 I delivered it today

can't get the day right let alone a timed slot

just read the headline again and it says message sent day before delivery due so maybe the lady never read message properly and got wrong day

they know where and when you are roughly at any given time, they have been watching you for the last year. ;)

Thats fine and dandy theyve been watching him, what about the new guy that started last week and has been dropped on this without training and bands it up as per fitting cause he knows no better # on the normal posties day off?

Does this mean parcels that don’t have a safe place or designated neighbour won’t be leaving the office?

So what happens if a customer receives their time slot for the next day and then the postie phones in sick so the walk goes out on o/t or is lapsed so the delivery is all out of kilter. Also how will they deal with walks that are lapsed, sometimes we do ours on the way out and other days we do it on the way back so could be 5 hours difference.

This is just going to lead to many customers complaining. We cannot do the same as dpd and the like, because, as has been said, we do letters as well. Hope we aren't guaranteeing this service cos that's gonna lead to a lot of compo.
