Hi,
I am going to soon be starting work as a Postman with driving on a Part Time 30 hour contract.... 8.30 - 2.30.
What will my day look like....
I imagined my day would be....
1. Come in and sort the round, maybe this takes 1-2 hours...
2. Go out on the round...
3. Come back to the depot at 2.30pm and drop off any dockets and undelivered parcels.
4. Possibly be requested to go out and do more work (not sure how common this is, but from what I have read this seems like it may be a regular occurrence?)
I have read that somedays posties have less mail and finish early, what happens then? are you requested to go out and deliver more post from other rounds? or is it ok for you to go home early? as I hear that somedays, specifically Wednesday, postie's have a lot more post deliver and work beyond their scheduled hours?

I'm on 30 hours (8:00-14:00)

I come in, the mail is in it's frame, I bring the "missorted" mail and put that in the correct address for my rounds
Bag it up
Off we go with another colleague
usually finish half 1ish
Back at Depot, put any parcels not delivered in correct location
Sign out, Go home about 1:40
Tuesdays usually home earlier

Yeah not much sorting at all, I'd say 45 mins on average on the depot, sometimes spending 5 mins just standing in line to get special delivery parcelsnorris9 wrote:gimba wrote:I'm on 30 hours (8:00-14:00)

My body has taken it well, but my feet have had blisters and pain I've not felt before, but a change in trainers has sorted that out,.and today is the first day of being pain free
I've not been offered overtime yet, and quite glad tbh, as by end of the week I feel quite tired, so anymore at the moment I wouldn't want it yet
But very happy I joined and took on this job, despite the bad things you can read
