Monday to Friday delivery ...imminent
Doing Monday to Friday would allow for a fairer share of the workload leaving Saturdays for the bulk of the parcels would need to be agreed with offcom and the review I believe is around the corner. And expanding to M-Sun would be best for everyone. Duties m to f own duty no floaters. And flexible double shift on S-S. Monday will be lighter with this review. So everyone wins. Light Monday and Tuesday and then 3 dias okeish.

I’ll go with Dingos thoughts as it’s the line of least resistance with no changes needed to the USO!!
“Additionally I believe they will go back to their proposal of heavy and light days. Currently the USO only relates to approximately 40% of the work which is currently delivered 6 days per week. They have previously said what if on 3 days out of 6 you only deliver the 40% and any tracked and the remaining days you deliver 100%. What will be the impact on staffing and revenue ?”

Royal Mail cannot get out of the USO which commits the business to delivering 6 days per week. The USO is next up for review in 2022. There is little chance that it will cease Saturdays or any other day.
In fact Royal Mail want to bring in Sunday working on the current rate of pay for Monday to Saturday as they do not believe customers will agree to pay higher parcel prices on a Sunday.
However as gone postal has mentioned, only approximately 42% of what you deliver and process daily is covered by the USO. Hence why Royal Mail are reviewing what is delivered each day.
They already want to remove all large parcels from the core delivery.
Additionally over the next few weeks Royal Mail have sent out 3 sessions of WTLL to their managers all title Understanding the future which is their engagement process and has 3 headings
Session 1 - The Business is Evolving
Session 2 - The Customer and us
Session 3- Building a strategy
This engagement process is ahead of their capital markets day in May where they will announce their 5 year strategy. None of this has been agreed with the CWU.
Reco clearly is not committed to the 4 Pillars and wants to remove what is delivered on the core which will potential cost thousands of jobs.

Like most I don't believe everyone will be working Monday to Friday but I also don't think that people will be on some rota to deliver on the Sundays either like DGH mentions. My reasons for this is because the USO doesn't cover Sunday deliveries so therefore the only guys delivering a few parcels on a Sunday will be the usual overtime grabbers....and there are plenty of those that are more than willing to work on a Sunday for the same rate of pay.
From the outset I'm not buying into this logic of having only 42% or whatever covered by the USO being delivered. My initial reaction is how can it work efficiently?? I've had managers in the past when I've wanted to cut off they have told me to 'skim the mail' and it just doesn't work very well in practice because we don't always know whats covered by the USO and what isn't. Our USO will take a bit of a hammering, or is that what Royal Mail are after?
My main point though is that the next day and because that mail still hasn't been delivered - I've still got excess mail again so I'm going to be cutting off and leaving mail again!! No matter which way you look at it, whether you got fewer staff in on a Tuesday, for example, and lapse more duties (which means more staff off on a Tuesday, when most want Saturdays off) or the same amount of staff on a Tuesday and have them working till 12.30. These proposals seem to involve a real danger of leaving mail behind to be picked up on a later day, so all I can see it really doing is robbing Peter to pay Paul. They will just end up having to pay overtime to ensure that all the mail gets delivered. Most offices have already got longs and shorts and with the SWW and everything its just about do-able to complete on time in our office. Why bother tinkering with it even further and bodging it all up???

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

And yet the union top brass keep arselicking whoever is fronting the business time and time again and falling for the same bullshit, it's getting pretty tiresome.Reco clearly is not committed to the 4 Pillars and wants to remove what is delivered on the core which will potential cost thousands of jobs.

The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

I could see potential for M-F for regular deliveries, with a premium parcel service being delivered on both weekend days such as Saturday Specials and Tracked. Theres great demand by customers for packages on the weekend, they dont care if their gas bill hits the mat on a Saturday or the following Monday.

The majority of customers will not pay for a premium service they have been getting for normal prices. It would be a huge PR failure if RM only delivered on Saturday's at a premium price. Also, our competitors do not charge extra for weekend delivery and many of them are delivering on a Sunday as per normal now. How could RM remain competitive if we went Mon-Fri? The amount of business RM would lose would be huge. It would also struggle to win new contracts. Any savings made on staffing costs would be wiped out by loss of business. All logic points towards delivering 7 days a week later into the day. Be it with the new LAT duties that have been suggested or later start times. I suspect they will trial the LAT Duties first and if they are a failure we will be starting later.Postie45 wrote:I could see potential for M-F for regular deliveries, with a premium parcel service being delivered on both weekend days such as Saturday Specials and Tracked. My gut feeling is that they'll do it via later start times for deliveries (09:00-17:00, with 1 maybe 2 duties doing the specials) to start night shifts later to cut down on night shift allowanceRen Hoëk wrote:I suspect they will trial the LAT Duties first and if they are a failure we will be starting later.

The only difficulty I have with Mon-Fri is, at least where I am, combining the mail we deliver on a Saturday with what's there on Monday would mean a ridiculously busy Monday. Prep + delivery = no chance. Might/not catch up on Tuesday, and then it's mad Wednesday .. constant catch up/overwhelmed.
If your frames were built at least several years ago, they are already not fit for purpose by senior managers own admission - the internet has changed the whole emphasis of the business in the last 2-3 years as those managers have said.
Conclusion: a 5-day frame is different from a 6-day frame, and a 6-day frame is only a guide (of work you can do) if its over 3-4 years becasue of internet shopping!

Later start times sure but later finishes is highly controversial at the moment,it will all have to be negotiated within perhaps the cwu's vision of s shorter working week and a nice pay increase to bootSpacePhoenix wrote:My gut feeling is that they'll do it via later start times for deliveries (09:00-17:00, with 1 maybe 2 duties doing the specials) to start night shifts later to cut down on night shift allowanceRen Hoëk wrote:I suspect they will trial the LAT Duties first and if they are a failure we will be starting later.

I can't see the shorter working week ever happening, not when walks around the country are cutting off a lot. If anything I think it'll go back the other way to either 39 or 40 hourspostslippete wrote:Later start times sure but later finishes is highly controversial at the moment,it will all have to be negotiated within perhaps the cwu's vision of s shorter working week and a nice pay increase to bootSpacePhoenix wrote:My gut feeling is that they'll do it via later start times for deliveries (09:00-17:00, with 1 maybe 2 duties doing the specials) to start night shifts later to cut down on night shift allowanceRen Hoëk wrote:I suspect they will trial the LAT Duties first and if they are a failure we will be starting later.
