Got an Interview - a few questions

Post by norris9 »

Hi guys,

I have been offered an interview as a Postman with driving and have booked a date for the interview.

I have looked through the typical interview questions and have a few questions about them.....

1. I understand they will ask me 'how do you check the safety of a vehicle'. I have found a list of checks to do and there are a lot of them. Do they ask for examples or do they expect you to walk them through every single check? Do they ask this question when you are outside and next to a vehicle?

2. I understand they may ask me how I have dealt with complaining customers in the past..... I am wondering what are the most common complaints from Royal Mail customers that a postman may have to deal with? I assume the most common complaint would be posting mail to the wrong address? I suppose a complaint could be anything really, maybe someone doesn't like it if you walk on their lawn or maybe won't like where you park if you always park outside their house. Please let me know of any complaints you have had in your time working for Royal Mail.

3. I saw someone wrote that they were asked how do you change a punctured tyre. Is this something they would expect you to do yourself? would they not prefer that you called out a breakdown recovery company to fix it?

Cheers guys.

Vehicle check should be asked in the interview, I wasn’t taken outside to do mine. Checks should be as follows, check for fuel, lights, tyres, seatbelts, mirrors, oil, water, handbrake, bodywork (fresh dents, scratches), wipers.

As regards to complaints etc they are not looking for Royal Mail complaints they want you to explain how you have dealt with a complaint in work you have done. They want to know how you dealt with it, they may be a question about health and safety, how you have provided good customer service. Look up the star technique for interviews on the internet as that may help you.

Good luck

Don't worry too much
Car question - I didn't have to show, I think they have X amount that they want you to know, maybe 6/10 or something like that

Check oil, coolant, washer fluid
Any warning lights
Tyre depth and pressure
Adjust mirrors
Check handbrake and seatbelts work

The complaint question is how have you personally dealt with a complaint

I got asked why I want to join royal mail - it's customer based. Keep fit. Well known company

And some more basic stuff, mine was a relaxed chat and had nothing to worry about
